Thanks all, The bearings are the IS 36 x45 which I think is standard for Dolan frames, so I think I've got the correct headset.

On my Ribble winter frame the Alpina headset fits perfectly too.

I think I'll live with it as it's just a cosmetic problem.

and to be fair Martin the runners blocked the way through a village whose parish council expressly object to any bicycle races passing through. The villagers had at one point sent so many complaints on cyclists to the police they kept a dossier on their complaints ..bit of a joke at the local nick

I was stopped by an officious brat who told me his dad was in charge and I should do as he told me. Twenty minutes waiting for the fat and unfit is not my idea of fun, nor was the fact that whereas the cyclists were restricted if someones daddy was on the council, runners had free rein. The rubbish left behind was dire.

The horses from the local hunt made less mess and caused less disruption and the riders looked a lot fitter too.

To be honest I can sympathise with them to a degree. The road closure does seem a tad un-neccessary. Aren't the roads up there pretty quiet anyway? And if we can't achieve closed roads for racing, do we really need them for sportives?? And why does a sportif need a closed road for that matter - seems a little bit overkill.

If it was a road race you would be looking at a rolling closure and a pretty small amount of inconvenience, but this will see the roads closed for some hopurs for no reason that i can see.

Having had runners streaming past my house for hours on end and arrogant marshalls (for runners) acting way beyond their remit making my life difficult for most of a day, I'd say don't be so quick to insult.

so did you start a focus group to try and ban them or did you just let a group of people with a different interest to you get on with what they wanted to do, put up with the minor inconvenience to your life (for almost an entire day - wow) and get on with it?

these are people who desperately need something worthwhile to occupy their time, i reserve my right to insult them for it. my mountain biking is often inconvenienced by horse riders, do i want to ban them? no, i just accept that life involves a bit of give and take and i chill the ***k out instead. any businesses that claim they are going to loose money clearly have no innovation or they would take advantage of the sudden influx of visitors to the area.
Never had a pair of Spinaci's (I liked the drilled ones) but I've still got a pair of the oddly named 3T Tiramisu versions which are quite cool on a winter bike when battling icy gale-force winds.

My mate still has a pair of the Drop-in bars on his commute bike. He fits his lights to the Drop-ins

Ekimov fit his tribars to the bottom of his on a tt bike he could get that low!
