On my last few rides out I've experianced bad lactate build up in my thighs.
Is there a supplement I can take to help keep it at bay a little longer?
If so, where can I get it from?

Cheers guys. Wink

This will do the trick

Fortunately 'lactate buffers' don't do anything much so they're not on the banned products list...

Dunno, the internet disagrees

That's an interesting article- I remember people used to take bicarb for ergo tests when I was rowing.

1-2% pretty quickly gets wiped out by the diarrhoea and vomiting though!

And anyway in cycling the benefit is really only relevant to track events and hillclimbs as everything else goes on too long...

Of course, I suspect what you mean is that your legs were knackered after a couple of hours. This is nothing to do with lactate buildup.

No. It can come on at the very first climb. Get to the top and it gradually goes. But the next big effort it's back again.

The best solution for this problem is to get fitter.

best way to build buffers in the legs is to start out more gently and let your body sort its self out. if you are going into a hard hilly after a few days rest, your muscles are going to be more susceptible (nice spelling) to lactate acid, one of the reasons why you should always do a warm up ride the day before a race with some big efforts in it.

beyond that, as mentioned get fitter and it'll get better.

Also, as an aside, the symptoms mentioned could also indicate that you have chronic fatigue in your muscles.... basically you are f-ecked and need a couple of easyweeks (proper easy weeks too) to let teh muscles really repair and then you won't be so fragile.

So... go away, and ask yourself, have you been smashing it of late, if so, do less. If you have been doing beggar all, do more, but be a bit kinder to your legs in the opening 30-60mins of a ride.

Lovely.

Thanks for all the advice guys. 90% of the time I ride on my own and I do tend to go a little too hard from the off, but I've always done that but these last few weeks I've had this problem.

I'll try going a little slower from the off. Wink

This thread didn't live up to the expectations set by the title.
