Hi

according to letour.fr - Cav has lost 20 points today, he was on 320 after yesterday's stage, 300 today.

Are they just hopeless at adding them up and corrected themselves, or has he actually done something to lose them?

Well i did wonder if that's what had happened, but i thought finishing outside the time limit meant elimination from the tour.

Or does some bloke in a suit just make up a random punishment...

I'm glad Cavendish (and the 100 or so riders he finished with) aren't being thrown out, but surely points deduction is a pretty arbitrary way to 'punish' late finishers - the majority of the auto bus wouldn't even have 20 points to lose, or care if they did lose 20 points....

Well it'd be a bit daft to have it half way up the mountain.

I'd have to agree with that. I was thinking more of the 1st & Hors category climbs beforehand.

If more than 20% of the field finish outside the limit, they remain in the race but lose 20 points.

That doesn't really punish those that don't ride for points though does it?

-20 points for the sprinters, a public flogging for the domestiques?

Clearly Rojas could do the maths.

Thanks for the update Sloathe.

I'd assume Rojas knew about that rule, and good on him for getting up the road and inside the limit. I'd also assume Cav was also given a finish time target via his earpiece (if not, massive cock-up by HTC)

If it happens again today Rojas gets the green jersey.

It won't happen today. It's almost half the distance. Rojas would have to get 3rd or better in the intermediate. Still, if Cavendish wins in Paris, it doesn't matter.

I don't know what's going to happen. Long long descent before the alpe.
