We have a new move in the pantomime ping-pong the UCI has made of simply stamping out d0ping (or not...).
I know:--- LET'S DO A SURVEY!--- http://tinyurl.com/aa4htqr
Quote:
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced that its wide-ranging Stakeholder Consultation exercise, ‘A Bright Future for Cycling’, will take place between 21 February and 15 March 2013.
Following the UCI’s invitation in November 2012, various stakeholders have contributed their ideas to the topics to be covered by the consultation exercise. Every stakeholder in cycling will be invited to participate in the process, including riders, teams, race organisers, sponsors, sports institutions, the media and fans.
Anyone will tell you that if you don't already know what's wrong with the organisation, you shouldn't be in charge.
This just looks like time wasting. A survey should be up to the next person who comes in as a pause d'orientation, and quite right too after so many messy years.
Meantime, this is probably the only question worth asking.

McQuaid is a puppet figurehead, so removing him would be like removing the PM, but keeping the Government, and the corrupt lobbying etc where the real issues are.

IMO, some areas could be run much worse then the UCI does, and we could end up with Tchmil running an F1 style organisation.

Bad analogy as the PM is not a figurehead, and decides who is in the government.

And the UCI in turn has set up and owns Global Cycling Promotions SA, which carries on in a manner simlar to its owners. It recently binned one of its World Tour events, the Tour of Hangzhou, which was due to take place 09.10.2013 - 13.10.2013.
The event received a renewed four year licence in 2012, but UCI recently reported;-
Quote:
Press release: Professionnal cycling council meeting
Date: 14.02.2013
The Professional Cycling Council (PCC) held its first meeting of the year yesterday and today in Geneva.
...
The PCC learned of the decision by Global Cycling Promotion (GCP) to withdraw the Tour of Hangzhou from the 2013 calendar: after realising that the basic conditions for organising a race at UCI WorldTour level would not be met in the short term, the project has been frozen.
In order to ensure the consistency of the calendar, in particular taking into account sporting and logistical aspects, the PCC consequently agreed GCP’s request to bring forward the date of the 2013 Tour of Beijing to October 11-15.

And while we're on, there was also this;-
Finally, the PCC approved a project aiming to increase the attraction of races which will be carried out in 2013 in collaboration with the organisers of two UCI WorldTour events: at these events, which will be selected in the next few days, each team will be able to have six starters only, and a new system of bonus points based on intermediate sprints will be set up.

One wonders how a race with smaller teams will 'increase the attraction', so maybe it's a ruse to get a full turnout at the Tour of Beijing - another GCP event. Will this go ahead now there have to be 19 World Tour teams - another change forced on the UCI by CAS for reason of its maladministration in leaving Katusha and the world's no1 ranked rider out of its premier league.
You can't make this stuff up.
