I look on mudguards as a training aid, you can ride for longer being dryer and warmer with them. The riders who turn up with no guards usually turn back home early.

Its not just when its raining either, they are great when its stopped raining but the roads are still wet and mucky.

I don't see an issue with them unless you're trying to break records or win races. They keep both you and your bike clean, with minimal downsides. What's not to love, especially on dirty British roads!
