James never won the junior cross, he did win the road and the buckley the year after that.

No it has to be Chris Dodd and neither of the Pro or amateur cross winners won the Nat RR in the same year

Yep, Sam got it - as far as I know Chris Dodd Cov RC was the fist one to win both titles. He was Junior Road and Cross Champ.
I remember his Dad telling me that he attacked early and the bunch all laughed and said "let him go, he's only a cross boy - he'll be back soon"!! Shocked

No one listens do they all these years on? Rolling Eyes

Remember in an earlier thread all those knocking Roger for staying will a lesser Belgian Team? Well why not - they have 2 National Road Cahmps now (at least) and seem to be one of the Top Belgain teams on paper now!
Good on ya Rog. Twisted Evil

Damn - I was just reading this and thinking Chris Dodd and it looks like I have been beaten to it but......

...as a Solihull rider I also seem to remember that Roger Page might have done the double sometime as a vet and I am pretty sure Barry Moss was a double as well? Barry Moss was certainly in the winning squad as a national team pusuit champ with the Solihull hanging on to Graham Webb's back wheel.

But I do think Chris Dodd is the right answer.

PPS And another Solihull rider was Rick Travis who was National Schoolboy Champ but I don't know if he ever won the nationals at cross thiough I did see him ride the worlds at Crystal Palace.

All this proves is what a great club the Solihull had in those days!

Hey De Rosa - dont know if you remember Tim Broadhead? He rode the Junior worlds with me and I seem to remember him winning a Peter Buckley race. We all rode the lot in them good old days. "Trav" never won a National as a Junior or Senior but rode the worlds too.

Paul Watson?

Paul Watson was Schoolboy Cross champ in 1978? and Senior RR champ in about 1984 or 85? Also Mountains jersey winner in Milk Race 1987.
I was at School with Paul (same year, diff class). Now you know why I couldn't get on the school cross country team!

We also have had from my school: John Dowling - Milk Race team captain in 1979 & 1981 and Jon Hunt - Junior 25 Champ & BBAR in 1993...

*CENSORED* was just a class above his time - argualbly the best cross rider we ever saw but he developed health problems - he would give de vlaemink a hard time on no training. I tink his brother still races for Dave W,s Bradgate?
Chris Wreghitt never won a road National but rode the peace Race and turned pro for Bianchi, then retired after a couple of years. Sad loss that they didnt sty connected to cross althouh ve seen Chris occasionaly
