Out of the above who is most likely to succeed now that Heras seems unlikely to race?

I don't want to know if you think Valverde's going to win the Tour or Ullrich the Giro or Vino the Vuelta, just which of these lot is most likely to score a(ny) Grand Tour win.

Interesting: no-one (yet) has picked either Simoni (2 x Giro wins) Cunego (1 x Giro win) or Salvoldelli (2 x Giro wins) as a possible Grand Tour winner for 2006...

statisically speaking if you count back all the winners of the grans tours since their inception the proportion of winners that would clear a modern dope test is quite scary.
Coke and amphetamines were not uncommon pre 1960. Steroid testing was only introduced late 70s early 80s. Epo and hgh test were only introduced 98-2000. The testosterone tests even now have major inhibitions.

Jan for tdf from basso and cunego. Savoldelli for giro from simomi. basso consolation win in vuelta (presuming he skips the giro). The italians will beat each other up in the tdf fighting against the german and t-mob.

Popyvich may be the missing man from this poll. Disc didn't sign him for nowt. Simoni is my hero but can't time trial for toffee. Basso is most likely in my book, followed by a strong comeback by Damiano.

Valverde looks like a gerbil.

he's going to fly this year if he has recovered from his illness. I would bet(but not with money) that he is a serious contender for 2006.

Basso.

Going for Giro and the Tour.

Predict that he'll win the Giro and then see what happens at the Tour.

Fancy Valverde to cause some trouble too!

Basso for the TDF and Salvoldelli for the Giro, don't think Basso can do both??

Not sure about Ullrich, Vino is a good choice. Just look forward to a LA free TDF fight!!
