Seen a lovely 1950s/early 60s 531 track bike frame with a particular personal attraction. Being a certain age I do not want a track or fixie. Frame has horizontal rear drop outs (closed ends closest to the chain stays, open ends facing rear) but have been told no way could it be converted to a classic 5 speed rear block. Whenever I am told NO I tend to be more determined ! I have converted a classic road frame to take modern 9/10 speed (basically by having the rear triangle cold stretched wider) so I can't see why the track frame can't be stretched to take a 5 block. Could an old school bolt on derailleur hanger be fitted to the rear dropout ? Would like to hear from anyone who has done this conversion - or can provide any sage advice. Thanks chaps !
