Why?

Just buy a long sleved skin suit.

IMO shaving your legs is not for aerodynamic reasons. It is because if you crash the hair traps infection into the would, therefor taking longer to heal. I would rather shave my legs when there is still skin there.

I'm sure someone will correct me, if I'm wrong. Rolling Eyes

Don't know why, but quite a few cyclist shave their legs during the winter. I have never done this and never will. It seems to me, these chaps enjoy the shaven legs a bit too much Shocked

I dont think thats it - . I've been racing for years and never cut my legs - in fact i've never crashed - (i've fallen off training in the winter - with hairy legs?? i've cut my arms more
( not purposefully) and i dont shave them. Its pretty easy to flush out a wound and treat it with antisceptics - hair or no hair. Most racing cyclists are pretty in touch and would seek treatment quickly

shaven legs i think are for ease of massage - you cant rub hairy legs as well and aesthetics - pure and simple and it does feel more aerodynamic but i would think the benefit is pretty marginal!

I always say massage first - especially with rugger mates! the aesthetics i tend to overlook Very Happy

I would say, primarily due to the accepted convention.

It has been done in extreme circumstances/special events, Read the caption at the side of the second photo.

The standard most of us are at you might just as well shave your eyebrows. Swimmers (before body suits) used to "shave down" every bit of exposed skin before big races. Then, the drag coefficient of water versus air is a bit different.

Waste of time then. And silly, looks daft. I don't even know any ladies who do it (shave their arms, that is!).

It’s a good theory, tiny molecules of air trapped in hair will reduce friction as the air brushes over the trapped air making a airy noise in Ayreshire

Golf balls have dimples to create an air turbulence that help with lift. The dimples create "Eddie" currents and reduces the friction on the surface. IE Air passing over air has less friction than air of the golf ball surface.

My point is that hairs may do the same sort of thing. My theory is probably floored due to the difference in speed but it a thought. Wink

so does that mean with airy dimples you will fly further Shocked Shocked

I used to shave legs but not enymore. Anyone who shaves their legs but not their arms is completely illogical Confused

If I thought it would save me a few seconds I would do it for an important race. Rolling Eyes
