When you have a choice of live coverage what do you prefer:

Smithy and Sean

or

Phil and Paul

Haven't got either... So I'll make do with Paul & Phil's OLN coverage over the web.

To answer the question, I only have Freeview so I can't compare, but I am disgusted that in the Prologue programme every commentator/interviewee expresssed 'sadness' and 'disappointment' about Millar. NOT ONE CONDEMNATION OF A SELF-CONFESSED *CENSORED* CHEAT! No wonder cycling gets such bad press with such ostrich-like behaviour. You'd think the poor boy's dog had died.
Given that coverage of Armstrong's criticism of ' LA Confidentiel ' (I've just finished reading it btw, and I'll never regard LA in the same light again) was given airtime, what are the chances of Walsh/Ballester being allotted equal opportunity to defend their book? Zilch IMHO. Mustn't rock the boat. Pah!

Robin Timariot.

ITV2 have longer advert breaks which is annoying.

But Phil and Paul are just better. They notice more things, identify riders quickly, and are generally more professional.

I quite like the extra little "feature" bits that Gary Imlach does. You can miss out 5 minutes of a flat stage while he highlights some news and gossip.

Is there an English version or only French?

I like Chris Boardman on ITV2 and Kelly on Eurosport, so it's a bit *CENSORED*-change for me.

So the rumours are right then Duffers has finally gone.
I quite liked him he missed all the action but was entertaining.
Mike Smith has an annoying habit of over-pronouncing the riders names.

I've not bother with Eurosport this time due to buying a digibox.

My vote is for Eurosport.

They both have good / bad points.
I like the fact that Eurosport show much more coverage.. some days it will go from 9.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m (thankyou eurosport). Im glad I work shifts and have 34 days holiday left (til march Shocked ).
ITV do show more of the interviews in the day time, but then eurosport concentrates purely on the race live - then shows interviews and more in depth team coverage in the highlights.

The length of adverts during any sport on ITV does my head in.
As for missing stuff, they both do.

Before it all starts - lets not be bitchy about any of them - they are giving us the choice so both deserve our support. But I favour the one who shows more than 3 weeks of cycling a year.

Hmmm. Are we getting two channels confoozed here?

British Eurosport doesn't show that much. Not much more than ITV2. And Phil and Paul are just miles better.

I switch to Eurospurt during the ITV2 commercials to hear Smithy's babble and Kristy Anderson's nonsense along with a few *CENSORED* and *CENSORED* from Kelly.

I'm sorry Axel but I have to disagree.

Duffield has been coming out with the same sad old stories for years. I thought they'd started a eurosport gold channel.

I believe that Duffield hasn't been to a bike race for seven or eight years, all they do is play back tapes of him wittering on over the live action.

As for Mike "is it not" Smith, at least he tries to pronounce the riders names. Duffield used to treat them like a countdown conundrum. If I'd heard him call Paolo Savoldelli Salvadelli one more time I'd have had to search him out and kill him Shocked Very Happy .

To my mind Sherwin and Liggot are no better, they may have a better understanding of the sport but they still can't talk in coherent sentences.

Kelly is class though so my votes for eurosport. Wink

British Eurosport doesnt show that much??? Are you having a laugh???
Every classic (bar the Italian contract farces), all of every major tour, world champs, major track events, De Panne, Paris Nice, Crit Int (usually), Romandy, Catalan Week, The British RR Champs!, and many more...

Ok, I will agree that their programming schedule sometimes frustrates us... But some people may read your coments and think.. Oh, if I want to watch Cycling on Tv, ITV2 on freeview will be enough.

ITV2 show - 3 weeks of the Tour and THAT IS IT.
They do it well, as I have said before, but that is so much less than British Eurosport.

I am sure that everyone else with British Eurosport will also point out how VERY wrong you are...

No, you're right. Nothing but The Tour on ITV2.

But not much less of that than Brit Eurospurt.

The biggest problem with Eurosport in general is that to have it you need either Sky or NTL. As I only want this channel why should I pay for all the others, or is there an alternative?

Only French. Libel laws in the UK and Ireland (significant if you thought the English version of Willy Voet's book told the whole story - truth is a matter of perception) are much stricter than in France. If the English version appears expect it to be the size of a championsip startsheet.

Des on another thread called Walsh a 'crap journalist and a coward' for not publishing in England.

So. Should neither Voet nor Walsh hit the stands, is English libel too protective, or what?

Personally I believe we're better off the more comes out.

I have repeatedly seen that it would be trivially easy for *CENSORED* companies to put markers in the *CENSORED*, making detection foolproof. But they refuse (for some reason probably best not known) to do so. Until enough noise can be made to get Governments involved, tbe only people who can make such things happen, all sport will be hopelessly mired.

It's also been said that the illegal trade is one of the *CENSORED* companies' biggest earners.

The more noise we and Walsh and his ilk make, the more likely it is that we might do something about the bad guys.
