The whole point of winter training is that you get cold wet and miserable to toughen yourself up for the early season races. With mudguards fitted you stay warm and relativly dry so you may as well stay in and watch the telly (to those who have said "you get wet anyway", try mudguards, it's amazing how much difference they make)

Yes, mudguards (with a flap if group riding) True, if it is raining you end up wet, though they keep some of the spray off. But if the roads are wet, say after overnight rain, they do make things more pleasant. Lets face it, we get wet enough times as it is, so why get a wet ar*e when it's not raining!

One thing though, make sure the mudguards don't rattle at every slightest bump. After a few hours this can drive you and every one else crazy.

I'll get wet thanks, it's only water after all...

If people want to make themselves mucky that's up to them; but if one rides in a group, when the roads are wet, without mudguards, that simply isn't on; in fact it's quite rude.

Yes I'm aware of that thanks. Good job you told me so that I didn't have to rely on 30 years of bike riding experience.

Simple, for group rides have two groups one with and one without mudguards. In my experience the riders without mudguards usually want to ride harder anyway.

Are those clip-on guards any good, if your frame doesn't have eyes?

Riding in a group with someone who hasn't got mudguards is like passive smoking - who wants someone elses cr@p?

OK they may add a little bit of weight, they may catch the wind slightly - but who's getting the better training effect?

They also help to keep your bike cleaner so you do't have to wash it so often.
