Which Training Zone System do you use ?

I still use the Peter Keen 4 Zone system to record training.

Is this method still popular or have most people gone over to the 6 level system. Question Question

I use the 6 zone method, as it gives a better picture of what I have actually done - when I download my ride.

But still take in '4 level' terminology when telling people what Ive done.. KISS?

4 Zones is easier to use, but since I don't train much I opt for the 2 zone (sleeping and go like Evil or Very Mad levels) routine Very Happy

1=on the bike
0=off the bike Laughing Laughing

I don't use the training zone thing. I just train at a heart rate of between 160 and 170, with the occasional anaerobic spring or climb.
I have heard of this zoned training, but never got round to reading up on it.
Is it really better than just training in 1 zone all the time?

160-170 is not zone 1.

160-170 is not zone 1.

testers generally use 4 zones, roadies 6.

in my experience testers cant understand that zone 1 is actually training (even though you may need to do it for 6+ hours).

something like this:
R < 60%
Z1 60-65%
Z2 65-75%
Z3 75-82%
Z4 82-89%
Z5 89-94%
Z6 94-100%

Oh, apparently stay out of zones 3 and 4, they're the tester zones that don't do you any good... what most UK riders train at.

"tester zone" - just under or over your AT.
it's not endurance training and it's not stressing your body enough to improve significantly.

anyways, in my opinion if you're not good enough to finish an Elite race in this country it won't really matter what training you do.
i'd only recommend 6 zone training if you're a full time cyclist and you're on the bike every day.
