Here we go, "I remember the days when we would do 100 miles on a cheese sandwich", shame you can't do more than 30 without a Burger King stop now.

Lucky for me there is a Burger King at Hopwood Park Services on J2 of the M42 ! Nice and close to Becketts.

Saturdays ride was fairly typical: 3.5 hrs at a good pace so I took 2 x 800ml bottles with SIS GO (6% solution) but drank only 1 and a half bottles. Ate 2 bananas in first 2 hours and 1 x SIS GO gel with 50 mins to go.

Pasta when I got in (god aren't I good? Wink )

ooh, go gel,

does anyone know what the point is of making a gel isotonic?

Doesn't that mean it's a drink?

You take an energy drink on sub 2hr rides? I am not someone who can run all day on a fig roll, but I wouldn't take anything other than water on a ride under 2hrs.

Depends if youre riding hard I suppose. I was under the impression that a weak carb solution would hydrate better than just pure water. Plus there have been times when a planned two hours has turned into 3 hour. Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to drink it. I take two spare inner tubes with me on all rides......... Can't stomach energy drinks very well. Like Vimto or dilute Orange in the bottle.

Also - like a nice strong coffee before I go out.. - to focus the mind you know...

Thrillster...

yes and no, they last for ages so once bought they don't go off. and unlike 'nanas they don't stick out of your jacket pockets making you look like a desperately hungry monkey
BUT, 'nanas cost me for 2 for 33p at the weekend: beat that for energy value!

During a post work ride last week I bonked at 2 hours and still had 15 miles to get home. Nothing to eat for 6 hours plus no Carb drink just electrolyte in the bottle and I was empty. Luckily I was going past Leisure Lakes bike shop and it was still open and grabbed 3 Go bars, ate one in the shop, ate one within a mile of leaving and the other on reamining part of the ride. Got me home, no problems. Although I would normally have a bit of fruit or fig biscuit, the energy bar certainly did the trick. Whether it's worth it or not depends if youre 15 miles from home and totally bonked.

Yes take carb mix on anything over an hour if you have any sense. No point in wearing your carb stores down espec on recovery rides.

Yes but, no but, when you run your glycogen levels down your body not only goes into fat burning but muscle burning Crying or Very sad and the more lean muscle you have the more fat you burn so in the end its counter productive.
