Allen bolts look neater. Track nuts work better and are easier to adjust.

The whole orignal design behind Allen Key (for Ford motor company) was they didn't allow a bolt to be over-torqued ... IIRC

FWIW I use a Zipp 950 track disc with allen key bolts. I agree that track nuts are preferable, but for general track use you'll have no problem at all with allen key bolts.

You must be a girlie pursuiter too then Rick Wink

Laughing yeah, guess I must be.
Actually I have to be carefull with the allen key bolts. I tighten them with a VERY long allen key, and replace the bolts as soon as they start to round, but I'm a 13 stone track sprinter. For anyone looking for a general track disc a Zipp 1150 will be perfectly servicable.

There you go John, good enough advertising for you? Wink

I always thought that but now running allen keys on my disc and have had no problems with them - although I'm not putting out the same power as you on a standing start.

Mark Zaschke has used them quite a lot in the past on some of his wheels and I don't believe he's has any problems either. They are (or were) standard on Mavic track hubs.

Got them on my Goldtec track hubs, though the axles also have flats on them to mate in the dropouts, which helps with stopping rotational forces and ultimatley wheel slippage. The caps the A/K bolts sit in have a serrated surface as well.

So far never had a problem
