Right, I've left out Bettini and O'Grady as they're injured and in Bettini's case may or may not be on the start line.

Where it says A.N.Other put in your rider in your post.

I'd like to see Zabel pull something out of the bag, but it looks to be a two way battle between Petacchi and Boonen. It will be interesting to see if the course changes turn it into anything other than a sprinters classic.

When was the last time MSR didn't end in a bunch finish?

I think Bettini - he is the only one so far who has made winning look easy.

Tchmil denying Zabel with a late surge in 1999 - watched it live in the Pollensa Park Hotel whilst on training camp, just like being in a sports bar watching football. It was great!

1996 - Gabriel Columbo, where Max Sciandri should have won it from a small bunch sprint
1995 - Jalabert vs Fondriest
1994 - Giorgio Furlan lone attack on the Poggio
1993 - Fondriest rampant
1992 - Sean Kelly catching Moreno Argentin when the finish wasn't so far from the descent like it is now. His final classic and what a descent!

ok just done some research (not doing it from memory anymore) and it's Bettini in 2003 who was the last non-bunch sprint winner

2004 Oscar Freire Gomez (Spa) Rabobank
2003 Paolo Bettini (Ita) Quick.Step-Davitamon
2002 Mario Cipollini (Ita) Acqua & Sapone
2001 Erik Zabel (Ger) Telekom
2000 Erik Zabel (Ger) Telekom
1999 Andrei Tchmil (Bel) Lotto-Mobistar
1998 Erik Zabel (Ger) Telekom-ADR
1997 Erik Zabel (Ger) Telekom
1996 Gabriele Colombo (Ita) Gewiss Playbus
1995 Laurent Jalabert (Fra) ONCE
1994 Giorgio Furlan (Ita) Gewiss Ballan
1993 Maurizio Fondriest (Ita) Lampre
1992 Sean Kelly (Ire) Festina
1991 Claudio Chiappucci (Ita) Carrera
1990 Gianni Bugno (Ita) Chateau d'Ax
1989 Laurent Fignon (Fra) System U
1988 Laurent Fignon (Fra) System U
1987 Erich Mächelr (Swi) Carrera
1986 Sean Kelly (Ire) KAS Mavic
1985 Hennie Kuiper (Ned)

the last proper breakaway on the Poggio and come in alone result would have to be Furlan in '94 the year after Fondriest, every other winner since then has either bunch sprinted to victory or slipped the bunch (Tchmil) or won in small groups (Bettini/Columbo)

I love doing that on the Tour Very Happy . Finding a sports bar with a truly international flava, watching the action unfold, getting the banter going and soaking up the thrilling atmosphere Cool Cool . Was in a sleepy little town called Couiza last year, watched the tour come thru live and then about 50 0r 60 cyclists descended on this little bar, to watch the rest of the stage. The propreiter was a rugby man who did not seem to like the fuss at first(they had tennis on to begin with *CENSORED*) but he soon had a broad smile on his face with the amount of beers which were sunk in his bar that day Laughing Laughing

Nah, not Vino. He's pedalling squares at the moment. Won't see him going well until Dauphine Libere. (Obviously, he will now win in San Remo because of my ludicrous attempt at punditry.) Smile

Bettini is available at 30-1 if anyone fancies a flutter.
