hit the nail on the head!

Boonen is tops and I think he will remain popular as he is a down to earth guy. He also is pretty respectful of the oppostion in public. A publicity dream and long may it continue.

I think you will find that Lance was as well

Lance also used to race the classics, i rmber a string of 2nd places @ Amstel, towing breaks around @ La Doyenne, helping Tyler and other teammates win Tour of Switzerland/Daupine. Helping George out in MSR and Flanders.

Lance's problem' (if you can call it that) was he was too successful..... And familiarity breeds contempt.

Agreed Boonen appears to be a nice chap (and I'm sure he is) but, as NS says, you lot will be moaning in a few years time when he wins P-R and Flanders every year ....

Disagree. Armstrong was a massive talent and got the absolute maximum out of cycling that he could. But after his comeback he was only bothered about one race, even though the media rattled on about him all year. At least there is something to tell about Boonen throughout the year.

Plus, his jaw was too wide, his socks were too long and he never looked half as cool as Boonen on a bike.

I always vote Boonen, even if he's not racing.

Cannot see the race going to anybody outside Quickstep in any event.

Cancellara for second and Pozatto third.

Well, according to my local paper, a report states that Tom is very confident about tomorrow, he says he finds PR easier than Flanders, has no probs with the pave, and he has the best team. He feels no pressure and reckons it's up to everyone else to beat him. Well, I guess it's down to good old lady luck then. Should be a good race Very Happy

Great race, without taking anything away from his victory, I think the strongest on the day deservedly won, I wonder how much Cancellaras attack owed to race radios & a tv monitor?
- He seemed to attack without looking around, just when Boonen was stuck at the back on a very narrow stretch. Hopefully instictive, rather than Riis shouting in his ear.

Looked to me like Gussev had a bit of a dig and got 10m and Cancellera came out of the middle of the group and bridged to him. If Canellera had room then so did eveyone else. Top marks to Boonen though. In the interview afterwards

I was going to go in the Carrefour de l'arbre but I was finished

No excuses, no blaming the equipment or the other riders. Good man. (Carrefour de l'arbre was the section where Cancellera dropped Gussev and was gone for good)

It was the section of pave that Graham Jones predicted earlier would determine the race.

I enjoyed Graham's imput, much better than Sean Kelly, and his only slip-up was he (and Duffers) didn't spot that Gussev had re-joined the break after he was initially dropped. It took them 3-4 minutes to realise it despite the fact that the two Discovery riders were riding side by side.

Let's hope that Graham is given more air-time. Wink

i thought he did ok - but hardly bought much enthusiasm - isn't there anyone who might actually inject a bit of 'passion'

duffers does those 15 sec outbursts ' here we go onto the arenberg - this is it - it's all here on eurosport - the drama - the suspense -' then trails off into silence for a minute - then starts asking why questions-

Gussev was doing phenomonal work and it got completely overlooked
