Although it in no way condones the cheating - it's not like we didn't know the sport was riddled with systematic doping.

The sport hasn't changed and is still IMHO the greatest sport on the planet, what is changing is that the cheats are being caught - which for the future of the sport has to be a good thing.

It hurts more as this year's Tour was so exciting. Twists and turns at every move. Yellow jersey changing daily. New contenders. Brave feats beyond the reasonably imaginable. We all thought this year's Tour might even be clean. I mean, they had a serious purge pre kick off. Then this. It's hard to stomach. Are there any top level pros who have not ever been linked in some way to doping??????

I didn't see it as a serious purge as such. Just a lot of sports people who may have been associated with Feuntes (Sp?) or not, depending on if the authorities are correct in solving of the code names. The cyclists were stopped from competing because of the supposed association, not from being found guilty of doping.

The notion of comparing pro-cycling to WWE is the probably the most disparaging, depressing, - and relevant comment made...

i generally watch pro races these days for the specticle of it, rather than believing it.

Does get to me when a winner of an event gets stripped of the win for doping denying the real victor the moment they should of had of crossing the line first.
ie Menchov who would have rolled into madrid thinking he had lost the vuelta when really he was cheated and poss now the same with Landis.

I've known that there is a *CENSORED* culture in cycling since I got involved with the sport. It doesn't make any difference to me, but sometimes I think 'F*ck, I didn't expect that' and that's what I thought about Floyd Landis today.
Naive? Gullible? Stoopid? Yes, I probably am. But I'll still watch next year's Tour and be as enthralled as ever.

Exciting, colourful, controversial, nothing suprises me anymore and I love em to bits. But enough about the soaps, the TDF is still the greatest show on earth IMHO.

its still the greatest sport on earth.

tehre are doped footballers, athletes, boxers, even snooker players *CENSORED*, its a fact of life within proffesional sport and needs to just be accepted without being condoned.
