There you are toodling along (copyright Jonno?) into a slight headwind on a nice quiet straightish road in Majorca. Life is wonderful, the sun is shining, birds are singing and you can smell the almond blossom on the trees. Then, you turn around and about 200-300 m away you see some fit looking rider (nationality unknown) franctically trying to catch up with you.

Do you?

Ride a bit faster to make it more difficult for them, then when they're within 50 feet, take the next left turn.......... Shocked

Normally, I would wait to have a chat and based on past experiences it can be quite rewarding. However, sometimes that competitive streak just emerges in me and I just have to put my head down and try to get away. Most of the time you never see them again, but last year this guy just kept on at me, never getting closer but always there. I turned right and then he turned right and turned left and he turned left following me and determined to get me. Regretting my decision and about to sit up, I turned around and he was gone. Just made me think though, what a pleasant easy ride turned into a 20km time trial.

I also once saw Fred Rompelberg and his peloton behind me once. Took the büggers 5kms to catch me though.

Makes me laugh though thinking about how competitive we all are at times!

I'm surprised Majorca isn't sinking due to the huge number of fat Germans that visit the place.

Don't worry Billy Boy. The weight is counter balanced by all the fat Brits in Palma Nova/Magalluf.

Ease up a little, let him catch you, feign exhaustion, jump on his wheel, then come past him on the blind side to take the sprint.
