Ultimately, you can do what you want on a bike just as long as you wear an helmet.

Made a comment to a guy this morning on Waterloo bridge... he had his helmet hanging off his handbars!

All I will say is 'dont stand next to a wall of speakers when a band is doing a sound check!' It was a moment similar to the open sequence of back to the future!

Shocked

Well no it wont if you have a reasonable lawyer.

Why does anyone want to drown out the sounds of the great outdoors by listening to music, why are you on the bike if you want to listen to a CD?

Just wondered.

Commuting on the same urban roads every day can get a little tedious

I ride with my iPod "in" but I don't turn it "on". I think that's probably the best balance between "personal enjoyment" and "safety" on those dangerous London town highways. Right kids? Wink

Sometimes I hum to myself (as guided by my own internal "shuffle" mechanism) and I also like to tap, rythmically, whilst waiting for the lights to change.

In fact, I think it's about time I popped off for a quick shuffle followed by a restful and refreshing sleep. Nightie Nightie! Very Happy pyjamas pyjamas

noise reduction type earphones can be more restricting on the sound of cars than regulars but the wind noise is cut out too. if you have it too loud you can't hear nought. but not full blast you can still hear idiot cars going for the gaps that aint there.

don't use it in busy traffic mainly out round the lanes. speaking of which long route to work beckons.

seems bizarre I get discouraged to use ipod on the road 'cos its a distraction' yet its legally ok to have throbbing base the whole neighbourhood can hear in your car, and still be allowed to faff about with satnav whilst lighting cigarettes and driving 2mph over the speed limit in the rain. Confused

The Highway Code does state that road users (which includes cyclists) should avoid loud music as it can mask out other sounds. So it would certainly be used against you if you were ever involved in an accident.

That's if they noticed.

Out of interest has it ever been used as a contributing factor in a motoring conviction?

Lawyers don't know the meaning of the word 'reasonable'.

commuting in the dark on unlit roads. boring as anything without music and much slower as a result.
