Some people scoffed when I said I wanted to have big legs AND be a decent cyclist. I now laugh in your collective faces:

Well I'd have thought you'd already have realised the health benefits of cycling, but if you need further convincing:

Now this magic 23.6inch figure just happens to be the circumference of my thighs when relaxed, so I guess I am in the healthy heart range.

Now what makes this curious to me is that my thighs are big... certainly big enough to (as KJ alluded to) struggle to find jeans that 'fit' properly.

Now that being the case, if 'normal' jeans are cut for 'normal' people, than surely people with 23.6in or above thighs are a minority with lower risk of heart disease, rather than those with smaller thighs being a minority with a pre-disposition to heart disease....

Anyway... how should one measure thigh size, relaxed or tense... if I tense teh thighs are just shy of 28inches... where does all teh extra inches come from?

60CM is the 90th percentile, which implies that the paper puts 90% of people in the 'high risk' category. useful. Rolling Eyes

At least 90% of people are at high risk of death.

I'm fairly certain I'm at high risk of death at some point.

I don't have big thighs at all -- 20". My cholesterol is high. I am a diabetic which also increases risk of heart disease. Yet when scanned (electron beam tomography) I have no trace of furring or hardening of the arteries, even though some is expected with age. I have a heart like a newborn.

This (a) shows the exception to standard wisdom (b) explains why I'm so shyte at cycling, maybe the heart of an adult would be better.

That article uses the word "toning". Therefore, it is complete bolleaux.
