I've written to my MP asking that all car drivers and pedestrians should also be required to wear helmets.

Why is 'yes' the 'sensible approach'? Rolling Eyes
Too much bias in the Poll options - should be a simple Yes, No, or Yes for U18.

Would, "Yes, I would prefer to be a cabbage after a head impact rather than be killed outright." be more acceptable to you?

Not sure you understand the concept of a balanced option in polls. Wink

If it's not, then the Poll is invalid.

You also need to do some research. Rolling Eyes

Hey, the way I look at it is this... I am retiring from bike racing end of the year... nothign will be brought in before that deadline date, and if it passes as law after that, then heck, I'll just get in my car, and clog the roads with another polluting death trap like everyone else.

A pair of runnign shoes will keep me just as fit, but I'll be at home more often (when not queing on my way home from/to work) and I'll have more money. The marketeers at Giro/Bell etc and the governments safety plans will nto get my money. So there.

So the answer from me is...who gives a duck.

And TBK, I don't think you've done enough to skew the results in your favour... why not change the no answer to....

'No way, no one tells me what to do, plus it'll get in teh way when I am fiddling with kids and killing puppies and stuff'

You'd think Jersey islanders would have remembered what it was like living in a fascist state. But no.

It's been driven by ONE politician, who had the sad thing of his son get hurt in an accident, and decided that had he been wearing a helmet, he may have not been brain damaged. What he's proposing is helmet for under 18s (children, in law?). So whilst you can join the forces at 17.5 years, you can't be responsible for your own decsiions - on Jersey. BBC ran a piece of the usual style, why not intorduce it in all of UK. Simple question - enforcement. Much easier to spot than tawts on their mobiles or TEXTING on the motorway. Who tells, who is over 18, and if Mr plod tries to stop someone and they just ride off, identification?? All nonsense. The only way would be universal use by law, and then I would get a record like everyone else, who drive without seat belts, phoning, using their laptop (really!), reading the paper like a bloke I saw on an A road last week, DRIVING A 44 TONNER.
Still, the nanny brigade think a helmet will make us safe from all these idiots, so that's all right then.

I would never go out on my bike without a helmet.

But as with many other laws in this country, doesn't mean others should be told to wear one.

What do you think would be an appropriate criminal sanction for your average under 12?

Nothing. A fine for the parents for negligence.

More to the point, what's an appropriate criminal sanction for opening yet another helmet thread on a cycling forum?

They'd be better off making the car driver responsible by law (like in Spain) rather using helmets to mitigate the root cause, which is motorist don't give fek about cyclists.

Root cause analysis required.....
