A capacity crowd at the Manchester velodrome witnessed another day of world class track cycling, as Olympic champion Rebecca Romero returned to the boards, Victoria Pendleton won her 29th National title and Ross Edgar rode superbly to win the Men’s Keirin after Sir Chris Hoy retired due to illness. In arguably the most exciting race of the night, with sprint champion Jason Kenny leading out the group, Edgar managed to launch a late attack by coming down the outside and taking the win on the line ahead of both Kenny and Chris Pritchard, who stole in for the bronze.

Victoria Pendleton had earlier retained the Women’s Keirin title, seeing off the challenge of Jess Varnish and Helen Scott as she led out the group from the front and powered her way to another gold medal, the sixth in succession for the Keirin event.

In the Women’s pursuit final the much fancied Horizon Fitness outfit, including the Paralympic and World Champion Sarah Storey, Dani King and Alex Greenfield proved too much for the returning Rebecca Romero’s ‘Orbea for Goodness Shakes’ team.

In the battle for the Men’s Pursuit ‘VC St Raphael A’ took the gold medal after a crash had prevented SiS from catching their rivals. With 500m to go until the catch, a change from Alistair Rutherford of SiS caused a collision meaning two riders remained and it was VC St Raphael who took the win by default.

In the Junior Madison race, spectators witnessed a frantic finish that saw the Maxgear RT riders win gold. Simon and Adam Yates looked in control throughout the race and managed to take a lap half way through as they took the gold medal. Silver went to Josh Papworth and Owain Doull while Andrew Hargreaves and Dan McLay took silver.
