Just got Shimano 10 spd STI's and note that the outside cable (is it gear or brake - haven't investigated that so far!) can be routed along the front or rear of the handlebars.

So any views on what gives the smoothest cable runs before I try myself?

NB brakes done the continental way, i.e. right hand does the rear, left hand the front.
