I road to work on monday for the first time since October - punctured on glass...twice!!!!! - i remembered why I don't do this that often

So - what do you recommend as a good heavy duty 700c communting tyre for cities with lots of glass about?

I do check my tyres each time when I get back for glass flints and flick them out with a pin to reduce the risk.

Any other recommendations or are these the best? - I do have panniers on that adds to the weight

Cheers

Specialized Armadillo.

I have ridden all sorts of tyres for many years commuting to central London, panniers like yourself. The Specialized are without doubt the most puncture resistant I have used.

They are truly awful in the wet, extra super care must be taken.

Panaracer Pasela - not as bomb proof as the Specialized, but loads more grip, which is just as important.

I got these, I don't even bother taking a pump & spare tube now. F**king heavy mind, two person job to lift your wheels up with these on.

second this, haven't carried a pump or spares either since using them - in about 3 years of commuting in London year round I've had no punctures on them (on my rigid MTB). Did get one though whilst off-road, a great big nail through the tyre. Heavy though, good training?

Come on now!
Did you have 8 inners with you?
Did you rush it?
Gotta run your fingers round inside the casing (if its not tubs Very Happy ) and check for 'stuff' AND work around the outside of the cover, squashing it, to expose cuts and embedded bits and bobs. Took me 15 'cold' minutes, last week, on my commute, to change one! Worth the checking though, sharp flint well embedded, dug out with my faithful Swiss knife.
That's my third in as many weeks. Called in the LBS and got a couple more tubes, fed up with repairing!

Was out on the mountain bike I hasten to add!
Nope, just had two tubes with me, but my mate sorted me with some tubes and patches, he punctured a few times too.
At one point I pulled 4 thorns from the tyre Shocked ..

All this and I was about an hour and half away from home in the middle of nowhere.. Laughing

Should be getting this fitted soon though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_BsT8D9JYY

What tyres are you using btw? I've got Conti Gatorskins on my winter steed, and haven't punctured for about 4months, worth the extra cost.

Them what was 'on the bike' - a bargain Claud Butler Urban 100.
Its good!
Had it a year now, gone through 2 sets of brake blocks. Tyres, 28's, are now deffo worn. Guess I'll have to invest in some of these gooduns being written about.
Anyway, well done, you definitely had a tough day, the rewards WILL come.

Either those or any Conti's that have puncture protection are all good in my experience.

Cheers, when I was going mad my mate just kept saying its "character building", but I could think of many alternatives..

Still, was nice out in the sun. Cool Twisted Evil

Just looked at the vid.
Surprised to see that the manufacturer of the tyres shown is Kenda - that 's the make on MY bike! (previously unknown to me)
Certainly not the same tyre - The demo was quite mad - rapid fire punctures. Think I'll look into getting Gatorskins
