I use cycling shoes & leave a tatty pair of sandals in the bike park for walking into the office.

May seem a daft question, but I've never thought of it; is it possible to get shoes that take cleats (Speedplay, in my case) that you can also walk on?

Yes. MTB shoes can do.

I use old fashioned touring shoes on traditional clip/strap pedals for commuting. No issue with walking on them!

MTB shoes and Time MTB pedals. Did briefly have looks and road shoes but it was too much hassle with a third floor flat. Plus walking around sainsburys in cycling kit is one thing, tottering around in cycling shoes quite another.

you won't get a walkable shoe thats compatible with speedplay.

Like lee says, MTB shoes and pedals.

Keep an eye on wiggle, they usually have some gopping shoes from a couple of years ago for 15 quid, then cheap times *can* be found for 20-25 quid (you have shafted knees don't you? Avoid Shimano SPDs, or anything else with limited/restricted float)

why on earth would you want to use clips and straps?

For commuting 7 miles in London with plenty of stops at traffic signals it makes sense - and no issues about walking when you reach work.

Nine years ago all my bikes were with clips/straps - this is the only one I haven't changed, as it is not worth the expense as for commuting the present arrangement is actually safer and fit for purpose.

That's that then

Limited float isn't a problem, it's setting it up the way I like it. Speedplays are wonderful in that regard.

No cleat, strap not tight=easy removal of shoe.

You don't say.

Flat soled touring shoes with clip straps facilitates a far quicker removal than my SPDRs and I'm not investing in new shoes/pedals for my commuting bike, when what it has works very well Exclamation
