... or in the evening?

I'm curious to know if there is a higher degree of cyclists being hit by cars / white vans, when people are half asleep at the wheel.

Hi by the way - new to the forum, I commute 6 miles each way per day to Canary Wharf, taking the under pass at the Cutty Sark. People doing this route will know what I mean Smile

Christ, it's all the f'n time. I have avoidance 'instances' many times per mile when on main roads (which is why I stay off 'em). (Buckhurst Hill - City).

Welcome to VR.

The 3 instances in the last 8 years when I've ended up on tarmac have all been in the morning. Loads of near misses in the evening though. Now does that say my reactions are also slower in the mornings?

I haven't actually been hit for years, but all my recent near-collisions that involved me shouting at people have been in the morning.

never been hit by a car in 22 years of riding on the road.

I find the morning safer, but I'm in my ffice by 8 and ahead of the worst of the rush hour. Coming home, I'm bang in the middle of it.

I'm in by 8 or earlier as well, maybe the 'burbs are not as safe as Camden Confused

The ride is generally ok. Camden high street is always pretty quiet and hardly any pedestrians to deal with unlike the rest of the day, have to be careful with the traffic calming in Adelaide Road but that's the same at all times and Swiss Cottage I always find dodgy. But other than that the ride is generally fine, have had some near misses but nowhere near as many as on an evening. Then again, my ride home is generally longer and includes more main roads so maybe that's why I find it worse?

Good effort! But all of those factors are irrelevant...

I think most of Martin's ride is on rural roads, which is probably a factor.

no they aren't. being aware of what's around me has made a huge difference. riding track makes you aware.
