Anyone on here (apart from George, who I already know about) coming over to do the Duo Normand two-up on the 20th?

Me and Matt Jones are coming up from Fougeres to do it. That is if we ever get our wrong size bikes we are borrowing to fit. _________________ Seizing the day since 1988. |

Cool, I'll try and come and say hello. We're off at about noon I think. Should hopefully be finished before dark...
If you're using full on TT bikes, be aware that a: it's often flippin' windy out on the Marais (marshes), so disc wheels can be a liability, and b: the middle section's decidedly hilly. Definitely worth a recce ride the night before if you can. |

I'll be on a standard road bike too. Mrs E will have clip-on mini tri bars, but when I tried them she complained I was too aero and wasn't providing enough shelter - my job is be as big a wind-jammer as possible, so I end up riding most of it on the tops! |

Don't seem to have my start time yet, but hopefully we aren't off too early before any of these guys:
BODROGI - Laszlo SEROV - Alexandre
FOUCHARD - Julien KERN - Christophe
IGNATYEV - Mikhail OVECHKIN - Artem _________________ Seizing the day since 1988. |

Also we'll most likely just be driving up on the day so a reccy ride is most probably highly unlikely. Unless we drive up early and drive round, I'll see what we can arrange. We'll be in yellow and red btw, see you there. _________________ Seizing the day since 1988. |

So you will be on the back AGAIN coming up the last hill like two years ago.. |

Yep, and surreptitiously pushing Mrs E along, like the last two years...
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Ali - not sure you'll be allowed to drive round - first teams are off at sparrowfart and it's pretty much constant all day. Best bet is to cadge a lift with a support car. I'd say come with ours, but you'd be better off following someone who's going to do it a bit quicker! In case you don't get a recce, first 27k is pretty much flat and fast if a bit windy sometimes. Make the most of it and keep the highest average you can as it'll drop off in the hills. None of the hills are real killers but there's about 15km of rolling up and down - fast descents with only one slightly dodgy corner towards the end, and even that one only in the wet - in the dry it's 60kph+. So long as you get the line right...
Once through the village (remember to sprint through the village square past the grandstand - make it look good), it's a straight out and back 12k-ish. Slight rise out of village, then gradual downhill to turn - again, wind it up and make the most of it as the last 6k back is mostly steady climb (as it would be). Lots of people die big time on this last section and lose lots of time, especially if it turns out to be a headwind). With about 1k to go it's downhill all the way to finish line so you can bury yourself up the last hill knowing you'll get to the line even if you have to freewheel. |

Thanks, I'll see if we can hitch a lift at some point. If we get there early enough I'll try and find you and see if I can watch you suffer. _________________ Seizing the day since 1988. |

The other thing to do is offer yourself and car as a support car - they have a pool of volunteers who act as support cars for teams who haven't got one of their own, in return for a few euros for fuel. |

I'm not sure that we'll catch you!! If we do, I'll be sure to shout the traditional 'dig in'....!!
What sort of time are you aiming for, any ideas?
We're travelling over early Friday morning, light ride etc, then Saturday we're spinning around the course, if you're about and fancy joining us, PM me, we could always arrange to meet up.

Let's put it this way, I'm making sure the lights are fully charged...
We did it in 1:45 last year. approx 20 minutes off the podium...
Can't see we'll be any quicker this year, since we've logged about 100km of training since June. |

If you can get in under 1:15.31 you'll just beat Jeannie Longo's time in the Mixed category from 2005... |
