What are MTB Race Nights about?
Taking place on 3 Friday evenings in Nottinghamshire. The events will include racing for Youth, Junior and Senior categories and all levels of experience. The courses are designed to appeal to newcomers and seasoned riders alike, and will offer a variety of terrain .
4 June 2010, Bingham Leisure Centre
9 July 2010 Glapwell Country Park
13 August 2010 Cotgrave Country Park

What are the courses like?
Bingham is a race proven, very popular cyclo cross course, that will be adapted for a MTB XC race with the addition of more technical sections. The majority of the course will be on short smooth grass, and it will be fast ! with fastest lap times of 8 or 9 minutes. Excellent spectator viewing, loads of parking, changing rooms and showers.
Cotgrave is definitely a totally different course to Bingham. Twisty, climbing singletrack and fast tricky descents through young woodland, interspersed with sweeping bends crossing crescent shaped dry drainage ditches, firetrack climbs and fast sections through the start and finish area will leave a lasting impression. Expect lap times of between 12 to 17 min. This bowl shaped part of Cotgrave Country Park makes for excellent viewing.
Parking will be adjacent to the course. Toilet facilities only.
Bolsover course is to be confirmed but most likely to be a variation on their challenging and race worthy cyclo cross course near Junction 29 of M1.
Why Friday night?
Start the weekend with a grin! Have a weekend race without messing up the weekend.
Do I need to pre enter?
NO, turn up at least 30mins before the start of your race, find signing on tent, cough up the race fee, attach number board to bike and you're ready to go.
Practice laps from 5.30pm 'til 6.55pm.
Under 12’s - 7.00pm
The Under 12's will race on a specific course with a much shorter lap length and of a much less demanding nature. Parental consent is required. £2 entry fee.
Under 16’s - 7.30pm
The Under 16's will race on the Seniors course for 30mins. Parental consent is required. £5 entry fee.
Seniors - 7.30pm
The seniors (including under 18's) race in an hour long event that will test both technical skill & physical fitness. £8 entry fee.
Who is organising this?
Bolsover and District, Sherwood Cycling Club and Velo Club Notingham are all British Cycling affiliated clubs with a long history of organising successful events. The races will be marshalled, with first aid cover in attendance. The event will be run under the GO MTB rules of British Cycling and its guidance notes.
Are there prizes?
YES, Hard cash, the prize list will depend on number of entries on the night.
All under 12 finishers, will receive a small prize on return of their number board.
I’ve never raced before, any tips?
Well, make sure your bike is in good order , brakes work and handlebar ends plugged or covered by grips. Adjust your bike helmet correctly. If you are lapped the lapping rider should instruct you of which side they will overtake you on, alternatively give them the racing line. Always smile. If it starts to feel like torture slow down a bit (unless of course...) Keep hydrated. Enter all 3 rounds.
Is there anything else!
Anything you are not sure about call Mike on 07930 398049.
Supporters and spectators are welcome.
On site catering available. Quality catering provided by local Guide unit with hot food, cakes, tea, coffee etc. _________________ www.veloriders.co.uk

£8 too high?
It costs £10 to ride round in circles at Mallory Park for no prize money. |

Not quite right this year cash prizes on the night were paid out on Thursday evenings, as long as 10 riders signed on £105 was paid out, less than 10 prizes were reduced. Tuesday night prizes will be based on overall positions as usual. |
