Can't the E.Mids division pull their finger out and implicate some kind of rule , so that every club/Team has to be involved in organising a Road Race , we could have a joint thing where 3 clubs could organise 1 Road race in each area of the E.Mids , lets say for example the N.E Derbyrhire area it would be my Team Clay Cross RT with help from Bolsover Wheelers and Mansfield RC , then another example would be North East Notts , with Mapperley , Sherwood and Newark all helping to organise a Road race , if we could get 6 parts of the E.Mids to do this we could form some kind of a E.Mids league ?
Would anyone be interested in doing this ? This would only take 18 Clubs/Teams for this to happen and to end what has become the Grave yard in British Cycling Road Racing - The East Midlands . _________________ Clay cross RT www.claycrossrt.co.uk

The point I was making Martin was that we have a wealth of experience in the Region, vested in people like you and Dave Wilkes. Think back to when you started organising (I can just about remember organising my first Road Race when I was 19!!) - you were inexperienced once and had to learn from someone. Perhaps that someone was an old guy who had 'been there, done that and (had there been tee shirts in those days) had a few of those too'. What we need in the region is a few 40 ish year-olds who have finally accepted that they aren't going to make a career of riding a bike, but are prepared to put something back into the sport. These are the guys who we need to pass on our knowledge and experiendce to, not necessarily by being involved in organising races, maybe by a mentoring process or giving a presentation, whatever suits the individual.
Tommo's idea of having a Regional Rule to get clubs to promote events was sort of discussed at the Regional AGM, but dismissed as unworkable. You can't force clubs to promote events. Events aren't organised by clubs, they are organised by individuals who WANT to organise events and they get their Clubfolk to help. Look at most of the Uk's classic events and you will find a long-term organiser behind almost every one. Many of those organisers post regularly on here and know who they are. One example is the Lincoln GP, an event which has got to where it is by the efforts of one man, with a bit of help from his friends.
I don't know what the solution is but when Pete Lifford comes forward to organise an event no-one else wants to run, then it behoves every BC member in the region to offer to help in whatever way they can, even if it is only in an advisory capacity.
End of Rant. |

Sort of discussed ? Ok the rule wouldn't have to be made that Clubs 'must' but what about the idea of getting 3 clubs from each part of the E.Mids to organise 1 race making a total of around 6 races to create a mini league ? Because TBH i've heard fook all else from anyone else with any ideas ! Jesus , 3 clubs to joint organise a Road Race shouldn't be to difficult , and i'll be first to put my name forward with Clay Cross RT. _________________ Clay cross RT www.claycrossrt.co.uk

It's a good idea Tommo and we might be in on it depending on the details.
We are doing 2 races this year - though one is in the West Mids league just to guarantee some racing for our members. |

OK, do it then. You don't need to wait for the Regional Board to pass a rule. JFDI!!! Get in touch with two other clubs - you said it can't be difficult. Set an example, show the rest of the region how it can be done and then perhaps we'll get three more clubs having a go, then 3 more and before you know it we could have a league and a whole region full of experienced organisers, officials and helpers.
Well done Tommo for setting the ball rolling. |

I want to get some feed back off here first , otherwise it'l just be me organising 1 race and that won't make any difference and isn't the point of my idea .. I'm sure i'd be able to get some of my sponsors involved as well . _________________ Clay cross RT www.claycrossrt.co.uk

It has merit we have people who have organised races before and could be interested. I'll raise the topic within our club (MRC) |

Are there many races organised in the Leicester area?
Would it be worth asking Keith Butler how he got the Surrey League going and if it is still successful ? How does he get marshalls and helpers ?
There is a crowd of older Leicester clubs cyclists meet every six weeks or so ,whether they would help with marshalling I dont know but might be worth asking ...
I have volunteered Alan and myself to help Pete but cant stand for a long time nowadays ,have had hip replaced but we can help with licences and numbers.

You could also contact the guys that run the South Staffs RR league.
This is very successful and oversubscribed for riders of all categories.

Leicester is by far the most active area in the East Midlands along with Lincs. Plus if you add Mallory into the Leicester equation it's positively thriving.
Nick Barnett and Wellend put on excellent races both under BC and LVRC rules, Zenith still do the 2 day which is always popular, plus Melton. It's Nottingham that has the issue with no races. _________________ Hoping the race organiser will give me a postcode to find the headquarters hidden in the wilderness.

According to the BC website, all of the East Mids Road Races are in Leicestershire. There's nothing in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire. |

Thoresby is in Notts, or doesn't that count cos you don't have to dodge cars on your way round?
Also, Lincoln (as in Lincoln GP) is in Lincolnshire, isn't it? |

Derby Merc put on two open road races - I think the course even sneaks into the East Mids at one point too. |
