When will there be an end to the nonsense of BC cow-towing to the CTT and holding the joint national time trial championships when it clashes with important international events?
The Cycling Weekly website reports:
"Pooley had hoped to defend her national time-trial championships on Sunday in Cambridgeshire, but on instruction from British Cycling she will race the Memorial Davide Fardelli time-trial in Italy instead, to collect precious Olympic qualification points."
Fair enough, and fair enough that Bradley Wiggins can't defend his similar national time trial title because he is attempting to win the Vuelta (and hopefully succeeding). There again there are precious Olympic qualifying points to be won.
So both male and female champions become a nonsense without the defending championships through no fault of their own. It is equally unfair to the riders who do win the championships as they lose the opportunity to beat the defending champions and remove any doubts as to who is best on the day.
Virtually every other country holds their national time trial championships on the Wednesday before the national road race championships so there is no clashing of events and the top riders are likely to be available.
Why does BC not go it alone and leave CTT to their black alpaca mentality and fixed distance championships? |

If Wiggins hadn't bust his collarbone, would he still have done the Vuelta?
Personally I'd like to see CTT forced under the BC umbrella. Can't be long til they die out anyway - the average CTT person must be 80 years old _________________ World Masters Drive HillClimb For Taureans Category C Champion 2013.

That's a very precise estimate for an average person. |

If CTT dies out, it is becuase there is little demand for road time trials per se, not because it is CTT organized rather than BC.
And don't be silly about the average age of time traillists, must be as low as 65 I reckon _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

The case for change strengthens:
Geraint Thomas is set to miss Sunday's national time-trial championships in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire.
"The decision was made quite a while ago. He's been on a training block for the Tour of Britain and the world championships; the information on the [CTT] website is incorrect," Team Sky spokesman Kris Dent told Cycling Weekly. |

I think it's immoral, unethical and unkind. it can also apparently cause heart attacks in the poor beasts.

StuartBen is dead right. A "championship" race that felt like a little club event, in the sticks, slightly dodgy course, no following cars, no banners, no publicity, what a wasted opportunity.
This is simply a CTT race with a BC championship attached. BC can manage to put on a decent PC race (Twinings), surely it's time to break the CTT link and get into the modern are, selected riders, following cars, proper circuit that takes the race to the local population (it can be "their" race - Captain Coe has shown that recently on a relatively small race, and the Twinings did exactly tat in Wilton, and did the Nationals last year, etc., loads of examples).
BC has "road" commission - it says so on their website. Instead of fiddling about with field size limits (Lincoln, Cicle Classic?), this is something they could do to make the championship a proper one. How about packaging it, you run the RR champs, the TT is included on the Wednesday before, as SB says. _________________ Mexican underwater chili eating champion 1957

There's a blog I just found and read by someone (it must be a pen name, surely - or perhaps not?) called Patrick Salt on VeloUK, which says it all. Worth a look. _________________ Mexican underwater chili eating champion 1957
