East Mids Youth Team

The East Mids Division Youth team rode in the West Mids 2 Day over the Mayday Bank Holiday weekend. The team was:

Martin Beech (VC Lincoln)
Leigh Andrews (VC Lincoln)
Stephen Adams (Sherwood CC)
Dave Fletcher (Newark Castle CC)
Michael Wood (South Pennine RC)

1st road stage (18 miles) held on a hilly 3 mile circuit of closed roads, Leigh managed a fifth place in the sprint with Dave & Michael also in the lead group. Stephen was unfortunate to puncture and had to wait a while for a wheel change, so finished well down.

Stage 2 - 3 mile TT This stage was over a lap of the morning's RR circuit. Dave came second, just over a second down on the winner, and Stephen was 7th, nine seconds down.

Stage 3 - Circuit race - RAF Cosford
Stephen and Martin both tried to force a breakaway. Stephen eventually managed to get into what turned out to be the race winning break, only to crash on a wet corner. The others finished in the bunch.

Stage 4 - Circuit race -RAF Cosford
Having lost any chance of a high placing overall. The team decided to go for a stage win. Stephen and Martin both tried unsuccessfully to force a break. Martin jumped away with a lap to go, and with Stephen blocking, managed to stay away for the win. Stephen bagged 4th place in the sprint.

This is the second stage race the lads have done together and they are developing a really good team spirit and riding for each other in races. The team will also be riding the Cardiff 2 Day (8/9 May), the Lichfield 2 day (3/4 July) and the Tour of Kerry in Ireland (30/31 Jul, 1 Aug).
