How did I know you were going to do this P'Nut
Dumb question any way because it depends on the course/terrain |

Gears are best for road racing, fixed for the track. Simple as that really _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

I always go better on fixed, even on a windy/ hilly course. And I have set all my PB's on fixed.
To me, the fixed bike feels much more lively and direct and is definitely faster. PNut I think you will go slower on gears, but let us know what happens! |

Never ridden fixed on the road, what kind of gearing is best given different conditions etc, what kind of factors should I consider? |

johnysputnik my favourite is 95", fine for most courses including 'rolling' type hillys. If I am riding a dragstrip then I'll change it to 102".
I gave up worrying about the precise gear long ago- as long as you can avoid 'spinning out' too much, you will be fine. |
