Campagnolo for sheer style.
Sun Tour also had more style than Shimano but - according to a research article by some American guy - was under priced in relation to the other two and suffered in consequence.
Keith Lambert's team was equipped with Sun Tour in the early/mid 90s.
Having opted for Campagnolo though, the prices today are ridiculously sky high. The punters are having to pay for all of the 'pro' teams which the manufacturs' sponsor.
Anquetil used to win on a plastic Simplex rear gears that you could purchase for 30/- (£1.50). _________________ The British Monarchy = Institutionalised Privilage |

The Wordperfect team (now Rabobank) rode on Suntour for a while. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Matteomjb |

campag for looks (bit clunky on gear change but great black/carbon looks and nice looking ergo-levers), shimano for performance (very smooth change but the ergo levers are damn ugly!!)

Little known fact...
The UK Falcon Cycles Pro Team in 1985 were sponsored by Shimano and Mavic...
But the bikes were equipped with Campag Super Record...
Now that is real style!! _________________ www.sports-coaching.com

You can drop down several sprockets with a graduated push on that button, am I right in saying you cant do it with Shimano? |
yes thats a real advantage when you need to remove your wheel... what else is it good for? _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

the italians do what they do best and build things that look nice, meantime shimano just make the best groupsets.
many reasons:
1) S are 2 iterations ahead of C in the technology used to attach the chainset to the BB, namely Octalink & Hollowtech. The result is now a measurably stiffer connection than C, therefore better power transmission, as detailed in this
http://www.duraace.com/publish/content/duraace/en/home/the_product0/drive_train.ExtraMainContentPar.0017.File.tmp/VN-crank-results-web.pdf
and what's the most important function of a groupset? - power transmission.
2) S shifting is lighter and more precise.
3) S braking is more positive
4) Fitting and maintenance is far easier on shimano. Removing the crank is a case in point, but has anyone tried to retrofit an ergobrain? - requires complete removal of hoods from the bars and all the work that goes with it. S requires peeling back the rubber and removing a plastic blank with 3 screws.
Its probably true that S is a bit more tempramental than C, but the tighter tolerances you engineer into something, the more tuning it needs and indeed the quicker it needs replacing. _________________ I am my favorite rider...

If your into posing then its got to be Shimano every time. But if its practicality, durability, functionality, design and style. It just has to be Campag,. every time. And it does help that it does'nt drop to bits half way through the season.I know from experience,my son was based in Belgium,for,3 seasons. And got throught quite abit of kit, which was the norm.Needless to say he uses Campag, as do I,it may be a little agricultural, but it won't let you down! |

Shimano just wears out to quick or falls apart, I once got through 4 rear shimano Dura Ace mechs in one season, ok it was a few years ok........I still have Campag Veloce 8 speed Ergo levers that still work fine from the year to long ago. I tried an Ultegra 9 speed set up and before the season ended the right hand gear lever had fallen out and the hole thing was knackered.
But I do use Shimano Shoes, cause they fit nice and don't make my feet hurt. |
