How can that be. I haven't seen a bike check for years.
Getting back to the question, there is no need for a lockring, as a sprocket will not loosen due to a bit of reverse pressure on the pedals. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

To aid the easy fitting/removal of sprockets - quite handy during a track meeting if you've chosen the wrong ratio. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

not sure a lock ring aids the fitting ov a sprocket... may make it slightly quicker
i reckon if you had a flip flop hub theres a 50/50 chance you wud have the rite sized sprocket which wud be far quicker _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

I took my sprogs to a BSCA track day at Halesowen. They insisted on lockrings and the organiser, anticipating that lots would turn up without, came with a bagful. They could only happen near Birmingham where they used to make the things. There were also guys with sprockets for sale, all sizes from 11 to 23, 1/8 and 3/32; proper sprockets, made in Birmingham with names like Villiers on them. Not that soft pressed rubbish you get nowadays. |

I'n my experience, the sprocket you want is on another wheel. So with lockrings you'd be farting about for ages _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

i reckon it takes me about 10 seconds to remove a lockring & about the same to fit...
maybe you are mechanically inferior to me? _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

No, just don't have the correct spanner; but don't really need one. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

personally i dont give a monkies about a lock ring... i agree that the sprocket is unlikely to come undone by backwards pressure if fitted corectly..... having one fitted will protect ya threads tho _________________ PNuT, who could forget PNuT

I agree, the sprocket transmits power, whether you use one or not is a moral issue, and its fundamentaly about being able to control the bike. You on that Beagle 2 or what? |

is beagle 2 that satellite? if so yes i'd like to be so i can see things other people can't. like living on a mountain but better. i was going to write an essay here in reply to you about discipline, punishment and control societies, power relations etc but really none of you care. so i'll carry on irritating everyone with occasional snippets like that. _________________ That was me not logged in. |
