Why, what has he done that is so much worse than anyoine else that is caught? And at least he's had the ball to fess up unlike most of the snivelling .
Funny we all applaud Millar for doing the same and despite him not being a patch on his former self since his comeback stil believe he only took it when he said. However Ricco must be lying and should be banned for life??? _________________

Because now is the time to draw the line. The old guard is going now. No second chances. They all know the score. |

well we had all that pre-tour talk of hitting any dopers hard and that it wouldn't be tolerated. also more and more people seem to be talking of 'life bans' as the 2 year ban doesn't appear to carry enough weight. ricco knew the risks like all those before him and took that risk. would he have done the same if he knew that he'd get a life ban if caught? i think it may have made him think twice. a perfect chance i think to really set a precedent and draw a line in the sand. thats it, no more chances... |

Draw a line agreed and yes maybe introduce life bans, but to be honest to suggest that you change the punishment and introduce it retrospectively is a ridiculous idea as regards as enforcability goes. _________________

Ah, deterrence... the principle that underpins the criminal justice system and is responsible for the current programme of jail closures in the UK... Who'd take the risk, eh? _________________ Guy Swarbrick

How about just making him ride this year's Vuelta as punishment so there's something interesting to watch while Contador bores his way to another victory? |

I wouldn't have proposed a life ban maybe a couple of years ago but Ricco is well aware of the determination of ASO and the like to eliminate Doping therefore to do so now he is doubly stupid imo. So life ban for Ricco - yes - and anyone else from now on. |

When he broke the rules, the rules stated he would get a 2 year ban, therefore he should get a two year ban, simple innit?
Surely the question should be - 'should the rule be changed to allow for life bans to be imposed?' _________________ Blame me for robbing Peter but don't you blame Paul |

Unenforceable on any pro on the grounds of restraint of trade; also unenforceable on Riccò because rules can't be changed retroactively. So it's silly going all Daily Mail on his assos; better to think of terms of something that won't fall over after a long expensive court case - I'd suggest longer bans (after the two years) from events above a specific category, so that the restraint of trade thing wouldn't apply (they'd still be able to earn a living riding chippers) but they would still lose out enormously.
Of course, it would be more effective if the biggest race in the world hadn't just voluntarily demoted itself to chipper classification, but anyway. |

Recent Italian legal history is full of "pentiti", "repentant" villains who confess to lots of contradictory stories; it's become a standard mechanism for obfuscating the truth more than finding it out. So don't expect much more than for stuff to go on a long time inconclusively.
Sorry, posted that on the wrong Riccò thread |

What determination is that, then? There's me thinking that their battle with the UCI was purely commercial and that the whole *CENSORED* thing was a smokescreen.
Of course, if was just commercial, they wouldn't be using the UCI's blood passports or throwing out whole teams when when rider fails a test, to be consistent with the ban on a team that shares nothing but a sponsor with a team that had *CENSORED* problems in the past... Oh, silly me - they aren't and they didn't...
Odd that when riders get busted under the UCI regime it proves that the UCI has no control over the problem; when they get busted under the ASO regime it's because the ASO has got control over the problem... _________________ Guy Swarbrick

I assume this is in reference to Astana. Did you know that of their squad of thirty riders, seventeen were part of last year's "dirty" Astana? And hey, the team ownership has stayed the same too. And last year they made the exact same argument before bringing massive controversy to the Tour for the second year running.
But hey! Everybody should stop harshing on Astana, because apart from that they're a completely different team! |
