Finally got round to having a bash at Mallory tonight. Not half as bad as I thought it would be, if I wasn't so useless in the first place.
I got dropped half way round though, I could blame a problem with my saddle but I don't think thats an adequate excuse.
I'll give it another go next week and see what happens.
Ta for the 'encouragement'

well done, half distance, thats a good start. I'm sure you will make it all the way next week, keep going and it will come together.

Just to give me a general idea, what sort of average speeds and race distances are we looking at for a Mallory 3/4 race? When I'm back in the UK I'm usually up near Loughborough, so close enough to nip down for an evening race (done an awful lot of laps there in the past, but never without an engine). 3/4s here tend to be between 36-40kph averages, for 60k event distances or thereabouts.

With all the usual caveats that average speed is meaningless etc etc from memory I think they'll average about 24mph and are maybe about 30 miles - it's a couple of years since I raced there.

Hmmn, that extra .2 might be the breaking of me...
It's flat though, isn't it? Certainly seemed flat enough with 100bhp... Wink

One little rise that you might need to change down to the 12 for.

We generally race for 30 laps, except for the first few races, and I believe the lap is just over a mile (1.2 or summat?). Roughly an hour and a half for 30 laps. Season starts last Tuesday in April, finishes last Tuesday in July, although can't speak for what may happen next season.

I don't usually even trouble the 12 on the flat, and I haven't even got an 11...

Thanks for all the answers.
