Fred Maier(started the season as a 4th) often rides both Tuesday and Thursday and does OK in both. He often gets a better placing on a Thursday because he can't sprint but gets away in a break.
If you are actually interested in progressing from 4th cat, then riding Thursdays is good training. |

How about running Thurdays as a handicap. 4ths get 3 minutes, 3rds 2 mins, 2nds 1 min and E's + 1's on scratch. Might encourage more 3's and 4's to ride. |
I think a handicap would be better for Thursdays if it increased the numbers. Many lower cats I imagine are scared off by the first few laps on Thursdays as the pace is all over the place until a group establishes, which is of course very hard on the legs. |

It could be made more apealling to all i think!
The racing on a tuesday is better than a thursday due to the number of riders it attracts.
Thursdays are good hard riding with quility riders wanting to race. So that said i think handicap would be more appealing to all cats.
If it means £1 more to ride for primes or 1st vet Ect. then do it.
If you look at regional figures compared we have the riders just not as many events that qualify to attract the numbers for everyone to enjoy. |

The racing is better on a Tuesday?
Define "better". |

You would have to pay me to race a tuesday over a thursday if i had the option.
Unless you mean 'better' as in you can get round in the bunch without hurting yourself then yes, but thats not racing. |

Better depends on.........
a) You prefer to sit in a large bunch for 95% of the race then move up the bunch in the last couple of laps for the bunch sprint. Then Tuesdays will be better for you.
b) You prefer attacking racing, smaller fields with elite riders. Then Thursdays will be better for you. |

The BC events page says that Mallory is on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th.
Is this correct?

Thanks, is it worth getting it removed from the BC site for those who don't read veloriders?

Just wanted to add that I think a handicap idea makes for GOOD racing. I've never ridden a handicap that I didn't think I'd got a 'race' out of. You ride as hard as you can to keep the big guns off and then when they arrive hang on for as long as you can...
Makes more of a race for everyone.
The trick of course being to get the handicapping right. _________________ Imagination is the war against reality.... |

We tried handicap races on Thursdays and gave up because even less riders were turning up |

You were doing it wrong then.... . Just joking Pete... thats a shame. A good handicap really MAKES a race IMO. _________________ Imagination is the war against reality.... |

I'm new to racing this season so am not that familiar with all aspects. I did a few races early in the season and was confused by the fact that cat 2s were racing on a tuesday evening in the 3/4 race - have i got it wrong or isn't a 3/4 cat race for 3/4s only or surely it's going to be very hard for a 3/4 rider to take points off experienced cat 2 riders.
Can someone verify that cat 2s were actually racing in a cat 3/4 race or have i got it round my neck?? |

Tuesdays are for 3/4th cats only.
If there were other cats riding then you should have asked the Chief Comm why. |

There seems to be an urban myth going around that if you're a Cat 2 junior, then you can ride Cat 3/4 races. This is incorrect, or there wouldn't be any point in catergorizing juniors.
There was one Tuesday evening where E/1/2's were allowed to ride, as the Thursday night had been cancelled due to BSB's. |
