Tuesday (29th July) and Thursday (31st July) are the last two days of racing at Mallory Park for this year.

If you would like to be able to enjoy racing at Mallory next year, please have a chat with with your club members to come forward and volunteer to be the promoters for a Tuesday and Thursday.

Any ideas of what you would like to happen at Mallory are also welcome - what would you add or change.

Ok,

The quality and size of the field would increase due to the upgrade. It would also give something for 3/4s to aspire to race in.

An incentive to race becuase of the hike in fuel prices too?

I suggest, no chicanes, permanent tailwind up the hill, and a 30 kg penalty for anyone under 40. Laughing
Sadly I don't think I'll get it Crying or Very sad

How about running Thurdays as a handicap. 4ths get 3 minutes, 3rds 2 mins, 2nds 1 min and E's + 1's on scratch. Might encourage more 3's and 4's to ride.

More points available would entice more people to compete instead of the ususal club runs or chain gangs, there is no money down there - even overall really, so the only thing to attract riders is geting points, but there aren't many of them either, when you compare to if you went down and road a hillingdon or or southern races you would get a hell of alot more points, they also have much bigger fields too.
We regularly get 15-20 people willing and wanting to bash their brains out on our chain gang, none of whom race. When i asked them why none of them race they cite the costs of BC membership and entry fees, the rewards for results and the lack of local events (east midlands we're talking now)
I personally think prizes on the night and increased points will definately lead to more riders.

To answer some of those points - not to defend the situation as it is.

Mallory is £ 10 to enter - ok if you aren't a BC member you have to pay an extra £ 10 but if they are thinking of doing mallory on a regular basis then they could join BC. They don't have to have a racing licence - if you are a member of BC then as Mallory is a C+ event a day licence is free.

Lack of events is something we are trying to address.

Prizes on the night is something that we would have to look at.

We can't have it as a National category event because then the 4th cats can't race.
We could have it as a Regional B but you wouldn't get any more points as a Regional B circuit race gets the same amount of points as a Regional C+
A Regional A which would get more points but still only down to 10th place. If you did this you would then open it up to 2nd cats as well. Tuesday has always been for 3/4 cats to give the 4ths a chance of competing. Open it up to 2nd cats and we might lose some of the 4th cats.
Having Tuesday as a Regional C+ is fairer to the 4th cats
If we had Thursday as a Regional A would we then lose some of the 2nd cats because they don't want to race because they don't want the points which would move them up to a 1st cat and the possibility of fewer events. Thursday as a Regional A would also mean that E and 1sts couldn't ride

It's a difficult one isn't it

If we change the event category we are likely to lose some riders.
If we keep it as it is, it is fairer to most of the riders.
If the 4th cats want a harder ride they can ride on a Thursday

You could leave everything as it is, perhaps being the best solution.

W.

The winner on Tuesdays at Hillingdon only gets 10 points Rodders, and they only go down to 10th place.

The LVRC events on Wednesdays also get a large field with no BC points available.

Given the location of Mallory, I'd have thought that riders would come from Brum, Notts, Cov, Leicester etc to ride - I know I used to drive up from Wallsall 10 years ago to ride.

I have heard the argument before about 4th cats not being able to ride on a Thursday but don't they ride on a Tuesday?

The other option is to run two races on the Thursday much like Ilton a E12 and 3/4 race. The two races can be easily kept apart.

Thursdays are open to ALL cats.
Tuesday is for 3rd/4th only

So if 4ths have a race on Tuesday why do they need to race again on Thursday??

To get a harder race ? I don't know but it is open to them if they want to. To be honest we don't get many 4ths on a Thursday.
