I don’t think we will be back at The Limes again after an unreasonable outburst by two opinionated cyclists!
Those fine ladies in this welcoming establishment have once again reaped the poisoned tongue of two little fellas in lycra.
Why, when the fine young cafe lady asked us to remove hats and gloves from the radiator because they were smelling, did someone (nameless but rhymes with Boris) tell the café ladies that ‘this place stinks anayway’! this was then quickly followed by another small lycra clad chap telling them ‘they just didn’t want us here and didn’t want our money as much as those smelly truckers’!
Where are we off instead of The Limes?
By the way, do all truckers weigh 30 stone and smell? This comment was also spat with venom at the café ladies upon departure. |

Yes perhaps it was because we did'nt spot the 3 Michelin stars on the wall when entering the fine establishment.
Seriously I fail to see why we go into the place when we are not welcome. We are served like 2nd class citizens and made to feel inferior by people who have no right to speak to us like dirt. I,m glad we stood up to these wenches and I will never go near the place again.
Why dont we go to Sherwood Pines instead? |

I think the wisest thing would be for someone respectable, like Ed, to pop in and apologise on behalf of the rest of the cycling community who might want to use the Limes and ask them to just ignore Doris and the like.
We're not all like that.

Why should anybody apologise? Were you there? Nobody speaks to me like I was spoken to today. Dorris was reacting to how he was spoken to, he'd admit himself he's no angel but today I could'nt fault the bloke. I'm not banned from anywhere because I like get on with people, but if someone speaks down to me and calls me smelly, I'm sorry but I wont take it lying down. I guess it comes down to not what you say but how you say it. This is not the first such incident in the Limes. "No cyclists after 11.45" was a previous greeting I had from this lot. Not a "sorry" or an explanation, but talked to like a black person taking a seat on the front of a bus in the deep south of America in the early 60s. I repeat why go somewhere we're not wanted? |

Don't ever go again
Tell everyone you know
Report them to the council that covers their area and claim discrimination, there's bound to be someone PC crazy there that might take up the issue.
I think 2 from 3 have been done, and that's maybe enough.
But for info for us non-locals who travel a lot, got the address as well? _________________ Doc

Erm....are there not two sides to every story?...and do two wrongs make a right?
Obviously I was not there and do not know the place in question, but just because someone is rude and offensive to you, doesn't really mean you have to be so back....easy to say I know and in practice not always quite so.
Surely complaining in the correct manner affords you the upperhand so to speak?
Like I said just my opinion, and I wasn't there. _________________ www.filles-a-velo.com |

This is the location of the Limes.
Will never set foot in the place again as I have too much self respect. |

Yeh you will one day.... Chill out mate it's done now. Plenty of other cafes and anyway stopping for a cafe stop is weak. _________________ rutrainingtoday .co .uk

I turned short today so never went to the cafe but I have to say the only reason I have ever been there is because the ride I go on goes there every other week. The place is a sh!thole. _________________ Don't train, it makes you too tired to race. |

Easy to say that the Limes is a sh!thole but there aren't many cafes that can cater for 40 riders all turning up at once. Thanks to whoever, it now looks as though we're banned from another on a very short list.
By all means go to Sherwood Pines instead, but service there is quite slow in my experience, so you'll be waiting a while if you not frst there. |

TBH 20 odd blokes clad in lycra all waddling in together like ducks is quite a funny sight(especially the little skinny ones) to anyone who doesn't cycle
I can't believe it's taken so many years to realise The Limes isn't in the Michelin Guide with 3 stars, what went wrong.... wasn't Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver doing the tea this morning? Or maybe they'd taken the wild venison off the menu. It's The Limes. _________________ "Never wrestle with a chimney sweep." |

Unfortuantely these negative attitudes and comments towards cyclists have been going on for some time. Maybe we should take the hint and recognise the signs that they do not want us in their cafe, at least Sedgbrooke made up some stupid excuse that said all we needed to know.
For me it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth when I'm spending my hard earnt money with these people. I cannot remember the last time (if ever) they have actually said thanks for your custom or greeted us with a smile.
What we all need to remeber is this: Never upset anyone who's preparing you food or drink?
Happy cafe hunting! |

Quite, what is that lumpy bit of phlegm doing sandwiched in the middle of your sponge cake! _________________ A positive mental attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I was there. final dialogue referring to the nice young lady who initially mentioned the smelly stuff
us: "that little idiot is only 16 anyway..."
them: "actually she is 20. and she is my daughter"
us: "oh. I'm sorry..." |
