Thanks Elaina.

For those that don't know it it's a good tough circuit of around 12 miles and then you turn off for a hill finish of about 1km.

I have pootled up it on my own but would certainly not like to be in the bunch trying to get up it.
I reckon it's so the comms can read the numbers easily.

8 races at Mallory open to Elites with £110 of prizes paid out on the night, how many of them did your lad ride?

My lad's been living in Harpenden all year, riding most weeks at Hillingdon and Milton Keynes, where Elites are allowed to ride all summer long. He returned home at the beginning of July to find no local races to ride, save for Witham whs and Duncan Murray.

Next year he'll be back in Nottm, but probably still with no local races to ride apart from perhaps the first few Mallorys and a few Darleys.

He can stay at his girlfriend's in Maidenhead when he's not at Uni, where he can race 3 or 4 times a week. Or he can continue to base himself in the East mids and have absolutely nothing to ride, i wonder which he'll choose?

At least he has a choice, unlike most E Mids based E's and 1's who have no choice and no races.

I think you'll find that the Zenith 2 Day isn't open to Elites, not even local ones. Coalville Whs? which one was that? Which leaves us with the Spalding crits, Divs and a few Mallorys. Hardly the basis for a successful racing season is it?

Whereas, I, as a fat, hairy legged 4th cat, can race 2 or 3 times a week if I want.

Organise a race? Been there, done that, got several t shirts. Too busy riding my bike these days, apart from organising the odd MTB and cross race.

But my club are just a bunch of testers, with no interest in road racing.

We did try 3 or 4 years ago, but getting people to help was like pulling teeth. We promote time trials and the odd cyclo-cross and MTB race.

There are clubs with an active RRing membership who don't promote. That's the problem.

What we really need is a road race league like Surrey league, or CDNW, where everyone does their bit. The odd club promoting races here and there is just peeing in the wind.

Next years programme at Mallory will be up for discussion at the AGM. Bad rules are passed when good people do not vote.
