Hey all, just an update on my issues with running SPD-R's with R215 shoes. The adaptor fits well though very bulky. Now due to having to tighten the cleats VERY tight to avoid them moving on the adaptor when u unclip from the SPD-R(when you have the release tension very high) ive managed to chew out the thread that sits underneath the adaptor where the front mounting screw of the cleat attaches.
Lucky for me as i purchased two sets of adaptors, needles to say i sent an email to Shimano Australia telling them how $^it^ouse their design is and that id never reccomend anyone use the R215s with the SPD-Rs.Especially when Adidas and Pearl Izumi make shoes that accept the SPD-R cleat without the need for an adaptor!!! |

Lord know what Shimano are thinking of. Their shoes and pedals have got progressively worse over the last few years. I had a pair of brand new Dura Ace SPDrs and the old 3 strap red and silver shoes (like Chris & Craig still wear) for the 99 season (I think) and they were and still are faultless. Fab bearings, plates that last for ever and wonderfully comfy shoes. Now we have stepped backwards to plastic plates again and we have horrid ratchety, bulky shoes.
I had heard some odd stories about the Ritchey pedals, like u can use Ritchey plates on Shimano pedals but not the other way round or something like that???
I don't know what the sprinters are going to do as the chances of Craig Mac staying in pair of SPD SL's is nil! _________________ You never lose class, only form. |

Don't know, but they've got to be better than Look or Time. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

I looked at the new SPD pedals last March and thoght they were not as good as the old style. So I am staying with Look.
I got a pair of Shimano mtb boots I bought in 1997, the mtb shoes they do now are so poor. They must be losing sales surely ? |

anyone know where to get SPD R pedals and cleats now Shimano stop making them? |
We have some of the R535 SPD-R's in stock. I bought them when I found out that they were stopping making them!
I use Time pedals-Equipe at the moment. _________________ "Wise men talk because they have something to say. Fools talk because they have to say something."

I used them for a month at the beginnig of the season, I couldnt get on with them. Changed to Time impacts which I would say are excellent. I am going to try the new RXS on my best bike next year and stick with the impacts for training.
I use impacts on the track no problems. |

I've never had any problems using Look - as long as the plates weren't totally . But then you'll have porblems with any pedal system when the plates are worn.
So why can't we say s h a g g e d on here?

I've never figured out what the fuss is about with pedals, maybe I'm just lucky that my knees aren't fussy. _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

No, they are not bad pedals, just not as good as SPDR's and by a long way. _________________ You never lose class, only form. |

I'm about to go in for my second operation on my knee this year because of SPD-Rs. They're evil when u take a fall! I can't find anything else that I'm confident on when sprinting or starting - any suggestions. (not Look!) |

I find they are a huge part because the last thing i want in the back of my mind is "what if i pull my foot". No one uses the Nz Keywin pedals? They have a great track version,i used to use them afew years ago(sold everything when i got out of cycling) and the only thing i didnt like was they are a hard resin type plastic. |
