Sorry about the large type everyone, it happens whenever I 'bold' text in a quote. WIERD eh? _________________ I was being chased by a police dog last week, and made the mistake of trying to escape through a little tunnel, over a see-saw and through a hoop of fire. soz should have said that amongst other products rumour was that flo jo was an early user of EPO. *allegedly supposedly*
In any case whether directly injecting EPO, reinfusing you're own thickened blood or indeed someone elses the fact remains that the human heart is an organic pump and if it has to deal with higher viscosity fluid for a long period of time it will suffer...just like a mechanical pump.
dooz
p.s. just found a paper that says EPO has been available from 1987.. was officially banned in sport in 1990. Not sure when the first ever Haematocrit tests were introduced though. If it has been availble since at least 87 we know that sports doctors are on the ball when it comes to new d r u g s. Make of that what you will. _________________ Well, don't you know about the bird

Blood doping is completly different to *CENSORED* taking in the sense that it does not introduce foreign bodies into your blood.
Baring this in mind, those who do not agree with blood doping, do you also disagree with training at altitude and using altitude beds/tents? All of these techniques have the exact same effect on an athletes blood - they increase the bloods viscosity therefore increasing the oxygen intake. |
it gets into the preserve of the well heeled to a degree and then you're into a different argument. Paula Radcliffe is well known to have an apartment in the French Alps IIRC which she goes to for altitude training to gain the same advantage as taking EPO. Now not everyone can afford this type of property but it isn't illegal and there's nothing to stop people doing this in a legal sense. people spend £6k on bikes but not £6k on flights to altitude places to train in. You can go to Boulder, Colorado to get the same affects and that's not going to cost a lot. Back in the 1980's a lot of good American pros came from Boulder or lived there to take advantage of the altitude.
Same argument goes with hyperbaric oxygen chambers - freely available if you wish to take things seriously. Lance purportedly had one as did Christophe bassons, the infamous clean rider who was hounded out of the sport by LA.
It's all about cash at the end of the day - but I'mm sure the cost of a chamber and the odd trip to altitude will be less than what Tyler Hamilton allegedly spent with Fuentes on dpoing practices in a year..... _________________ The internet is possibly the greatest bitch fest on earth. but will it give as good a response as exogenous EPO? I think if you look at the research (on pubmed etc) you will find a paper showing the effects of altitude training were at best alot more variable than rh-epo injections |
