And off course, I am getting my good looks back again ! |
Has the crash changed your opinions on womens road racing? |
oh dear - silly question alert |
Morning Rodders
In a minority sport, and despite all the progress cycling is still a minority sport in the UK, why alienate support/participation? Whilst you 'boys' might find the 'big , slow moving, technically inept woman racer' hilarious it really doesn't help the image of the sport
The original Rooster post stated that organising womens road races was a waste of time. How would you feel if we ladies said the same thing about mens racing? When you have a World and Olympic Road Race Champion feel free to mock! |
You could at least take the time to accurately quote and reflect what rooster actually said.
This was in the context of there being no Veteran's national series listed on the BC website.

how do you get from that statement to yours?

That's clearly not what he said.
Current BC stats. list 784 female licence holders compared to 7226 males. Unforunately there is no break down of the number of over 30s (masters) and over 40s (veterans) but, given that Over 23s make up 63% of all licence holders, it's reasonable to assume that Veteran riders far outnumber Women riders. This surely was the point in roosters' original post.
For the record, Karen, I'm firmly on your side in this debate. That doesn't alter the fact that you're reading something into this which wasn't there.
There is so much that we can do to improve cycling in this country, so can we please argue constructively against problems which exist rather than create non existant battles about wrongly perceived slights?
(Cue post from Rooster saying you'd got it spot on ) |
The question then Richard, and I apologise for the misquote, is why there are so few women racing? _________________ 'You are a free woman. You will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed (that you should be so lucky ) or numbered. Your life is your own.' |

Because women don't like riding bikes. _________________ "Well done, you are 100% absolutely without a shadow of a doubt spot-bollock-on correct." - Tucker

To elaborate, its hard, sweaty, not very comfortable, the clothes make you look like a spandex clothed superhero from the 80's and you might have to ride around in the rain/cold/wind.
And you might bounce down the road on occasion.
Or get dropped.
going to the gym and chatting to a couple of friends is easier.
thats why so many men do it as well. |

He may well have found it to be a waste of time, i found (on the whole) organising a womens team to be a waste of time.
People wouldn't turn up (cos so and sos on the start list), wouldn't listen to any advice (from anyone, ferchrisakes, it was meant to be developing the racing, can't do that without learning new skills), wouldn't do any training (racings not easy, you need to do some training) and so on, the list is much longer, but i can't be bothered......... basically, some were keen, many weren't.
You can say the same about mens racing if you want, water off a ducks back i'm afraid. |
Yet you post about successful women in your present club |
Yes, there is a culture here where sport is something everyone does, any age or sex. It's been going for decades. As for cycling, its a small sport, everyone knows everyone, families get into it as there is no traffic to worry about (so many people grow up with it), there is no striving for the most expensive bike (so whilst bikes cost a lot here, you don't get laughed at for turning up to an elite race riding with down tube shifters and 105) also (as far as i can tell) there is little or no distinction to between men and women in any area, work. social, sports and so on, well, not compared to the UK.........

Right, I agree with MATTR.
However, I have a few thoughts about birds on bikes myself.
I have been involved in the bike game now for 45 years, and anyone who knows me well will know MY views.
I like ladies, in fact I like them a lot, probably more than a lot.
But the bike game as a sport is far to hard and agresive for women. Women are a race that should look pretty, smell nice and be by there respective partners side when neaded.
Over the years I have seen women trying to race blokes and can think of more than one occasion were a current world champion pitched in, in a 3rds and vets race, only to get a right beating.
I have seen women involved in quite serious crashes and quite badly injered and hospitalised, and can only add that I much prefer to see a lady dressed in her civy kit (looking nice and *CENSORED*) than in cycling kit covered in mud, blood and anything else the road can spit at you.
Hope this is not to offending to females, but I do find the term Housewife, quite appealing ! |

There are a lot of women who run and therefore enjoy a good work out on the road. However IMO it's the bike that stops most women from cycling more. Punctures, thrown chains, slipping gears and the other minor or major problems encountered when riding. Most blokes like all that kind of stuff most women don't. Probably a very big bar to enter the sport.
Most cycling women have a dad or OH that sorts the bike out for them. _________________ You can't polish a turd |

My wife would stop tomorrow if i didn't look after her bikes. Well, not tomorrow, she has 5 of them to break first, so maybe a couple of months.
I am trying to show/help/tell/shout it into her, and i am patient with her, but some stuff she simply doesn't get.
Tho to be fair, one of the guys in our club has some problems with gears, and simply didn't understand why anyone would need (or adjust) the end stop screws. (Surely all the 9 speed cassettes are the same size?) |

I have the opposite problem, left unsupervised Elaina will remove gears, replace bottom brackets, change chains...honestly it's terrible. How can I assert my manliness if she's going to get up to such nonsense??
I keep telling her to get back in the kitchen where she belongs but it doesn't work. |

Problem is all birds are bonkers as the previous posts have proved, they get everything wrapped around thier ^&*'s, I know as i've got my own Jekyll & Hyde at home.
Saying this though i have to disagree with Roostie, i wish there was more of them on the road....as i would much rather ride behind some one with a front bum fantasing than behind Rooster( although the latter is very rare as he's normally sat behind me, imagining me in leather pants!) |
