Everyone sh@t themselves when he was spotted buying a full carbon Bianchi in Beeline down Cowley Road , and we're told that he rang up Pinarello to get his old geometry

Definitely. I was never going to be good enough to be a pro, but I never gave myself the chance to find out if I'd have been good enough to win senior races. Age 17, winning races, ride lined up with Anglia Sport alongside Gary Baker, just done the Butlins stage race, selected for a stage race in Germany, everything going great. Then for some reason I became an even more horrible, argumentative teenager than I already was, got myself kicked out of school, spent all my time down the pub and just walked away from cycling without a backward glance - until it was too late.
Which is a long-winded way of saying: if you get the chance, grab it. The money's not important and if you don't make it, the university will still be there later, and they'll want you all the more as a mature student with a bit of life experience. |
