Nothing to stop you standing. Clay Cross is in the East Midlands, isn't it?
Thats not the point is it ! I'm merely giving my view on the shambles ... You were the one complaining about the state or lack of Racing in our Division ! Which is fair enough , but then i see your name on the E.Mids A.G.M thread as a board member ! What chance have we got ? I'ts just Utterly unbelivable Rolling Eyes

Two races not mentioned for Elite riders in the East Midlands are the Lincoln Grand Prix and the Cicle Classic.

But the division board don't organise races. Organisers do. If there's anything we can do to make the job easier, then we'll do it.

There's a lack of E1 licence holders - that means unless you are subsidising an E1 race with a lower cat race or you have sponsorship it's much more of a risk to put on an E12 than a 34 or 234. That's the bottom line - if you want more races then there has to be enough riders to fill them up.

So if you're an Elite, move to Manchester or Surrey, or London or Milton Keynes.

The problem is still the ridiculous BC category ranking system and the fact that BC will not now listen to the membership. It is very easy to become an Elite rider and then impossible to find any races to ride unless you are a pro and get your expenses paid. You could go to the BC East Mids AGM or the Mallory AGM but you will be wasting your time if you think you can have any influence on road racing. I was on the Mallory Committee at one time but was forced to resign because the secretary could not spell the name of the venue of the AGM correctly.

I don't think it's that easy to become an Elite is it Ray?

But you definitely need sponsorship when you get there due to lack of events and Premier Calendar races at 25 quid to enter.

Not that hard to become a first cat though, which still means no racing.

Dan McLay, still a junior, but can't ride his local road race league, despite only living 5 miles from Mallory, because he's a 1st cat. Do we really want lads who are still at school having to travel to the other end of the country so that they can get to ride a race?

There must be a way around this because the Wyre Forest promotions at Stourport circuit allow 1st cat juniors to ride with 2/3rd cats.Perry Bowater had a win there this year.

There is no 'BC legal' way round this, I got a lot of stick from BC when I allowed Cat 1 Juniors into the 3/4 cat race at Warwick a few years ago.

What's wrong with BC making more first cats - the only reason there aren't enough races for them is because there aren't enough of them to support a decent programme of races.

You don't want genuine first cats allowed to race 3/4s otherwise what's the point in having a category system. I say genuine - points earned in senior races - if they've given him a first cat licence partly on the back of points earned against juniors then it's a bit harsh on him.

Good event, well organised.

Shame it was spoiled somewhat by horse riders on the course, and by riders who took the opportunity to attack at that moment. They were allowed to get away with it, while those of us that did the right thing and stopped were effectively then out of the race.

Big well done to Duncan Putman and all the Derby Mercury club members for a fantastic organised race.

Looked like a great circuit

Agree, great course that.

Shame about 'horse-gate', not sure anyone meant it though, from where I was a little group was launching just at that point. I was right next to the horses as they started rearing and going backwards, had to make a call quickly and 4 riders had shot past me by then (one crashed into me as I slowed). I guess the motorbike marshall could have attempted to sort something...awkward.

Those two girls on horses had been warned about the bike race as I was marshalling at the Tutbury turn and had a chat with them early on - they actually promised us they'd take a different route and I think initially they did - but then returned on two other horses which seemed flighty even when they were talking to us.

We did warn them again but they must have decided to risk it - what can you do ? Even after the incident they were nearly on the course a second time but we'd picked up some of the bother on the CB radio and when we saw them coming back past us about 2 minutes before the leaders were due through on the last lap we suggested they might like to wait on the pavement with us until the race was over and this time they agreed.
