Many clubs have a rule that all members must also belong to one of the major organisations that work to improve the infrastructure of cycling in the public sector in one way or another.
This is NOT an opinion poll on opinions as to which is the best organisation. It is the question of whether your members are asked to join any of them.
The three listed all provide more or less the same services with regard to public sector campaigning and all provide third party insurance within their membership fee.
This is a serious poll which may prove useful for at least local action, perhaps national. |

We don't but then we don't actually have any rules and are a racing club so most members are by default. |

One doesn't need individual BC or CTC membership to get third party riding cover, which can be acquired through the CTC for any member of an affiliated club. Cost was £12 per head last time I was involved in this sort of admin (c. 2005) so may cost a bit more now. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

Quite. Some clubs/people just love overbearing regulations! _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |

And some clubs don't like overbearing to55ers jumping up and down and threatening to sue when they get knocked off and break something (a bone) due to their own stupidity. Its just an extra (cheap) level of protection for the club and its members. |

Not really, because if you have rules you have something for a lawyer to get their teeth into. |
And if you don't have rules, the ride leader/club committee are potentially liable. Its an easy rule that covers many many sins. With very little cost. |

But almost impossible to enforce. What are you going to do, insist everyone brings their membership cards on every club run? Will the run be stopped if someone turns up with an expired card? Have someone watching at the back to make sure no-one from outside joins in? Talk about making the the sport inaccessable |

, since bringing this in, the club has gone from three smallish rides a week and 30-40 members to 6 or 7 rides and 150ish members. No one has complained, the club secretary knows who has membership and who doesn't (or used to know, do cards still go to the secretary?) No one complained for the first two years. It just provides a basic level of insurance cover and legal aid type stuff.
And of course there is no insistence on BC membership the instant you start riding with the club, there are beginner rides and an "allowance" of a few rides while you try out the club, before you are asked to join. (both the club and BC).
And FWIW, it was brought in (amongst other reasons) due to the number of major crashes caused by pillocks/non members. |

FFS, you do not need to be in CTC/BC to have third party cover.
WHAT ABOUT THIS IS TOO COMPLEX TO UNDERSTAND??
Also, club CTC membership covers non member invitees for third party cover on club rides, so even better!

So where does this magical free 3rd party insurance come from? Your household insurance? Ah, of course, not all policies include this.
WHAT ABOUT THIS IS TOO COMPLEX TO UNDERSTAND??
And no, the club wasn't part of the CTC. |

If a club is keen for it's members to have third party cover this is an easy and inexpensive way of doing it. _________________ John McClelland's victory in the motor paced event with Derek Marloe on the derny was a thing of beauty (Oldmanof) |
