Hi

Here's the route information for the Club Run on Sunday 21st April.

I've tried to avoid the hilliest route, so we're avoiding the actual climb of Beacon Hill and so it's a nice steady rise all the way to the top of Beacon Hill it's very gradual and spread over the distance. The worst hill will probably be coming back out of Newtown Linford (about two minutes worth) and then it's a nice gradual descent to Shepshed, a couple of lumpy bits from Long Whatton to Kegworth and it's another good ride in the legs.

Sunday 21st April 2013 Newtown Linford Distance 39 miles Undulating

Out 20.5mls Warren/Long Lane – Kegworth – Sutton Bonington – Zouch – Hathern – Shepshed – Oaks in Charnwood – Beacon Hill (top) – Newtown Linford
Return 18.5mls Newtown Linford – Beacon Hill (top) - Oaks in Charnwood – Shepshed – Long Whatton – Kegworth - Sawley Marina

Meet at the entrance to Sawley Marina as usual, 09.15 for 09.30 start prompt.

See you there, get yer legs on!

Hi again

Here's the route for next Sunday's Club Run to Barton Marina. It's a longer ride of around 53 miles but there isn't much in the way of climbing to be done as it pretty well stays in the Trent Valley out and back. Flat for around 20 miles, a 'drag' out of Rolleston on Dove followed by a bit of a hill to Anslow and that's it really!

This is one of my favourite rides, lovely Staffordshire countryside with a really good venue for a cuppa and a bite to eat. Barton Marina is a big complex, in addition to the marina and cafe, it has a deli, butchery shop, the 'Waterfront' pub/restaurant, art gallery, bric-a-brac shop, walks around lakes. Once you've seen it you'll want to visit again with the family.

Riding this longer route and attraction of the marina might take a bit more time than usual so I reckon we'll get back just after 1.00pm, that being the case, for those who might not wish to go the Marina, there's the opportunity to drop off as we pass by Swarkeston Garden Centre cafe at 8 miles, the Willington Mercia Marina at 13 miles or the Salt Box cafe at Hatton which is just a mile beyond our turn after Hilton at 17 miles.

On the return, the first few miles retrace our route to Tatenhill and then we join the tarmac National Cycle Route 54 to Burton. From there we'll track around the edge of the town to pass by Rolleston to Stretton to join the cycle path alongside the A38 to Willington where we retrace our route back to Sawley. There are other routes but tend to be quite hilly, we'll save them for another day.

Sunday 14th July 2013

Barton Marina Distance 53 miles
Outward = flat / undulating
Return = flat

Out 27 mls Shardlow – Aston – Weston – Swarkestone (Garden Centre Cafe) – Willington (Marina Cafe) – Hilton (Salt Box Cafe 1mile) – Marston on Dove – Rolleston on Dove – Anslow – Tatenhill – Barton under Needwood – Barton Marina

Return 25 mls Barton Marina – Barton under Needwood – Tatenhill – (National Cycle Route 54) to Burton on Trent – Horninglow – Stretton – Rolleston – (A38 cycle path) to Willington – Swarkestone – Weston – Aston – Shardlow – Sawley Marina

Usual meet at the entrance to Sawley Marina, 09.15 for 09.30 start.

Get yer legs on! Oh! And don't forget to put some sunscreen on!

See you Sunday

Brian
