I have found it useful to write down my racing and training, as this allows you to review and plan the year. The first thing I noticed when looking at the plan was how much I was attempting to do, which only became obvious in the written form. If you use a excel spreadsheet then you can cut and paste to "even out" your training and racing and be sure to include recovery/rest.

To make it even easier to understand I have colour coded the 3 main categoies. 1, Red Racing, 2, Green Training and 3, Yellow Rest. Once entered it becomes very easy to spot areas of either too much training/racing and/or too much rest. It is also useful to note how you are feeling and then review the plan through the year. Simple but I find it works well.

Problem with us bikies is we race alot. Alot of us will race every weekend plus club time trials in the week. No other sportsmen compete as much. It's no wonder some of us get knackered.

I agree, my biggest downfall is trying to race everything that's on locally 'because it's there'. The hardest thing for me to do is to stop racing and go and ride intervals instead or try and do a block of training for 10 days then rest, etc. You can get stuck in a rut in you're not careful:
Monday: 1hr easy
Tuesday: chaingang
Wenesday 90mins steady
Thursday: club '10'
Friday 1 hr easy
Saturday: 1hr-90mins spin or afternoon '10'
Sunday: '25' or club run

Now that's probably what's on offer to most of us from April-October but as you can see, i never seem to be working on specific areas/weaknesses. When I've been coached (Dave Wilkes and TW@) I've done specific sessions, fewer races and surprise, surprise I've gone better. There's a lot to be said for another perosn taking responsibility and telling you what to do......

Andrew, I too use excel spreadsheets as an easy way to 'overview' the months and use red for racing too. Everything else stays black. This way I can look back at a month for example and see how much racing I've done as opposed to proper training: not always what I want to see....

My plan for the racing season will be:

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Club 10 plus ride out and back steady
Wednesday - Rest (or Darley Moor Weds night series but wont ride the 10)
Thursday - Mallory Park
Friday - Recovery ride - 2 hours max
Sat - Rest or Crit or RR or 10
Sun - RR main event of week or 2 hour recovery ride if heavy Saturday

Planning to have an easy two weeks after the Divs RR and then two week hol in August, so hopefully can race right through to end September and have October off completely.

It's tradition.

John will know what gears you should train on, but remember, crank length should always be taken in consideration. Wink

Billy Boy knows that posting shyte gets on my ohh arhhh, so he does it constantly. He has now joined forces with his serious training partner, Stuart Shocked and will defend him to the death. Perhaps Emma will join this dynamic duo to make it the type shyte triple alliance Wink

Heffer sounds cool, but Huffer it was - as in 'Huffer Moo'. Type of gossipy wench with too much time on her hands. Often found grazing in shoe shops doing damage to husbands credit cards.

I actually kinda like her, shes fun.
