Problem with us bikies is we race alot. Alot of us will race every weekend plus club time trials in the week. No other sportsmen compete as much. Marathon runners select a few marathons a year and triathletes will only do a handful of triathlons each year (maybe because it's so expensive Wink ). It's a culture thing; we race to get form.

It's no wonder some of us get knackered.

i dont agree.... marathon runners may only run 1-2 marathons a year but they race all year round usually.... probably race on the track & cross country in the winter

its like saying i race once a year coz i do a 12 hour Confused

as for triathletes..... they train very very hard! they ride TT's they do running races & swimming races.... add all those up along with the triathlons they do & see how many races they actually do...

the biggest problem is not being used to what you are doing.... take rich hodge... he eats lard all winter does a weeks base work & then wants to race 5 times a week & wonders why he's knackered Laughing

If you're smart you will train harder, which could make you smart and will make you harder.

anyway to clarify - what I meant was I was actually going to "train" between races this year, I didn't last year or the year before. I just rode the bike between races, wouldn't have called it training. Shocked

Know what you mean, I would say the majority of bikers just ride their bikes and call it training, when in reality they are just pedal around for a few hours. IMO smart means specific training to achieve a planned objective. But that requires effort, thought and motivation and this is something that can be a rarity amongst bike riders, who usually take the soft option of a couple hours on the road spinning 39 x 15.

Over training is such a hard thing to pin point... thats why keeping a log/diary is pretty good idea as you will be able to look back and build up a picture to back up how you are feeling.

Different people can handle different workloads... but its only by trying that you can find out what you can handle...

The other thing that makes it difficult to understand is that as you get fitter you can handle more work....

Other factors like work and family life should be taken into account.

Also, I keep a keen eye on my pie quota.
