Did any of you in the East Midlands area see the Nottingham Evening Post on the 23rd of July. An article about the Berryhill Sports Complex, which it was to include a new cycle track.
6 months ago planning permission was approved by Mansfield District Council and work was to commence immediately for this multi sports complex including indoor tennis courts, a sports hall, gym, cycle track and changing facilities, £7m had been secured for the total project.
Up to this morning no work as yet started on the site.
Sport England have withdrawn from the project and their spokesman said " We will continue to work with Mansfield District Council to try and secure other funding but unfortunately this project does not meet our criteria.
The project submitted an application to the Active England programme and was awarded funding subject to the fulfilment of several conditions.
The application was for £1.5m and originally envisaged completion well before the deadline for this programme, which required projects being open and operational by December 2005."
It has become clear that the project will no longer meet the time scales, despite an extension of 3 months to March 2006.
I think it looks doubtful now if the track will be completed.
